Digital Spy reveal this morning that Gary Windass is going to have a one-night stand with Coronation Street new character Sair Khan, Kal's daughter.
When Gary wakes up the next morning, he is horrified and hopes he can keep his indiscretion secret. As this is soaploand, that seems unlikely of course.
Now then, I love Gary Windass. I think he is The Best Thing on Coronation Street By Far. (And yes, that does deserve capital letters). Mikey North, who plays Gary, is a little belter in my book. He is a fantastic actor and a complex character. I'm interested to see how this one will play out.
Izzy tells Gary that he deserves the chance to have a family and makes a shock decision that leaves Gary reeling
Alya, who is described by Corrie chiefs as outspoken and bubbly, makes her first appearance in Weatherfield in two weeks' time.

How original!
ReplyDeleteI am frankly disgusted that on bringing a Muslim family in, the young girl is immediately depicted as a loose moraled little tart. WHY cant they think of any other storylines apart from bed hopping? Its becoming very tiresome indeed.
ReplyDeleteKal has sex too, Frosty, and presumably he is the same religion as his daughter. What names would you call him or Gary?
DeleteIs this girl not his best mates daughter? It just does not ring true. I also agree what Frosty said,
ReplyDeleteDidnt the Ginger nutjob learn his lesson from the time he was obsessed with and came on to Tina? Then there is the total irresponsibility that they had a baby by a surrogate when he cant even keep it in his pants for 5 minutes!
ReplyDeleteAnd will she have a pregnancy scare?
ReplyDeleteWhat Frosty said! Yet more bed hopping :-( Smelloid
ReplyDeleteOh such creative original writing!!! I just can't wait to see what kind of NEW agony and arguments yet another one night stand brings....
ReplyDeleteSo much promiscuity.
ReplyDeleteWHAT is in the resident's water supply? ( or that of the writers perhaps)?
I'm with Frosty on this one too.
Jean Alexander is right, this show is nothing but constant bed hopping and affairs. The show is just becoming sleazy, and Kal's daughter will only be in it 5 minutes before bed hopping. They are disrespectful to their characters and obviously don't care. And all it does is make us hate the characters, surely we are meant to like them?
ReplyDeleteYou can see this coming, can't you? He's already narked at Izzy for keeping secrets and snipping at her for this that and the other thing. That's usualy a soap sign and Gary is if nothing else, impulsive. And the "shock decision" is obviously going to be Izzy being noble and letting Gary go when it's not what he wants at all.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone, it's getting tiring that everyone is just sleeping around.
ReplyDeleteThe writers have never been able to convince me of Izzy and Gary as a couple because they didn't develop them. I barely remember them first coupling up and it seems like they moved right into the surrogate story. We barely see them as a family unit and now he's cheating on her after having already attempted it.
As well, the fact that Kal has a daughter old enough to be sleeping with Gary makes me question the possibility of the friendship of Gary and Kal which again just shows how the writers hastily write a new character into the show.
Just feels like more of the same. Hopefully the actors involved will make it something better than it currently sounds
ReplyDeleteGraeme, I agree with your hopes.
ReplyDeleteI know the actors involved will make something "better than it currently sounds", but just because the actors are believable, doesn't mean the characters themselves or the story lines are necessarily so.
There has been and is too much concentration on promiscuous affairs to be either interesting or a sign of creative and imaginative writing.
Carla to have boytoy, Gary an one-night-stand. What that you said earlier Mr. Blackburn? Something about if an affair is all you can think of you would be pretty shit at your job?
ReplyDeleteWhat a surprise - the new character of Kal's daughter is "outspoken" which is soap speak for a mouthy pain in the butt! Isnt anyone nice any more Mr Blackburn?????
ReplyDeleteRe what Tom Randy said - sounds like another Tina. Awesome [sarcasm].
ReplyDeleteIn a few thousand years there's going to be a sub species of the human race. It will be called Homo sapiens cobbleus corrieus because of all the in breeding going on down Weathy way.
ReplyDeleteDoes every new female have to be 'outspoken' i.e. gobby?? Here we go again zzzzz
ReplyDeleteI think maybe the show should be renamed 'Cheating Street 'instead of Coronation Street due to all the affair.I also wonder why would Izzy say that Gary deserves a family?Wasn't that the point of Tina being their surrogate so they could have a family?
ReplyDeleteYawn..
ReplyDeleteI would call them "men", Anon 07:27. Once again, the hypocritical double standard is in evidence.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree with your enthusiasm for Gary/Mikey North, but he hasn't been stretched or given much scope the last year or so. This may be about to change, but the predictable love triangle is another indication of the complete lack of imagination or new ideas we're being served up with under Mr Blackburn's regime:(
ReplyDeletei do not understand what it is with the male population on the show lately. None of them (besides maybe Roy and Tyrone) at the moment seem to be able to keep it in their pants. They are either involved in an affair, a one night stand or lusting after someone other than their partner.
ReplyDeleteI realise that this is a soap, but come one - not all people behave this way.
Whatever happened to a happy family? One that works through their issues BUT remain togeather without cheating? I obviously cannot speak for other viewers..but i cannot be the only one who wishes that there can be at least one family like this.
Anonymous 18:58, you're not the only viewer who wishes this, believe me.
ReplyDeleteCoronation street, before it was categorized as merely "a soap", used to reflect life as it was, with just ordinary, hard- working folk, mostly decent types with of course a few badduns thrown in for excitement cos that too is life.
I suppose, in the ratings war, infidelity, murder, violence, angst, and just unhappy, out-spoken characters, are considered light entertainment and an escape from the realities of normal life,...hopefully that's the case.
Exactly how old is Kal supposed to be? to have a 20 year old or so(at least?) daughter? So bizarre...and if he and Gary were close friends wouldn't Gary maybe know he has kids about his age? Weird! And I agree...why on earth is Gary cheating on Izzy? Because they're having a hard time? Ugh. Doesn't anyone fall in love anymore?
