Owen is clearly not keen to return home to see Anna. She is worried about him and tells herself that it must be the traffic. We know different. He is in the Rovers and when he asks for another, Liz tells him it's his third. 'It's been a long day,' explains Owen. Liz tells him it's only half past one! She also offers some very good advice in that Anna will not be keen on him stinking of booze. As he returns home he sees that Katie is moving out. Anna tells him that she has told Izzy and Katy about Phelan. Owen is clearly tense and Anna is desperate to talk.
The Bistro treat (though they will have to pay for dessert and coffee) was gained by Gary having fixed the leak. Anna is in no mood for a meal out. Katie leaves and Anna tells him that there was one thing she thought he was not and that was a coward. To taunt Owen she says she might wear the outfit she wore for her assignation with Phelan. In fury and frustration, Owen up ends the table.
'We have to face this head on.' says Anna. Owen explains how he can't get it out his head - images of Anna and Phelan.
In the bistro it seems only Gary is happy- happy in ignorance perhaps. He is up for a new job in The Northern Quarter, and seems confident of getting it. Good, all the best to Gary, but where is baby Jake? Who is looking after him? Is Emily still the street's babysitter?
Steve and Michelle's relationship has been limping along for a while. It's made for troubling viewing at times - Michelle treating Steve like an irritating child rather than her partner. Luckily for Steve he has Lloyd as a friend who tells him to fight for Michelle. In the background there is a nice touch. Joni Mitchell sings Big Yellow Taxi, which includes the poignant line, 'You don't know what you've got till it's gone.'
Off goes Steve to the factory and eventually persuades Michelle to go with him to talk. Carla has spoken up for Steve. 'He might have his flaws, but Steve's not a bad bloke.' Steve tells Michelle, 'All I want is for us to be together. I want you to do one thing - believe me.'
The scene begins with a huge sigh from Michelle. Steve clearly has his work to do. He asks her 'Do you want a brew?' 'No' and a after a while, 'Thank you.' In an attempt to lighten the mood Steve asks if he should get down on his knees and go into full grovel mode.
Michelle shoots him a look of such contempt and venom as she asks him, 'Do you think this is funny?' He reminds her that he kids around when he is scared. She asks what he's scared of and he tells her he's afraid of losing her. in his words, 'Of you - bailing out.'
He is informed by Michelle that his apology will not make any difference. 'Sorry doesn't undo what's happened. Tina lost her life and Carla lost her baby.' As Steve points out, 'Got to live with that.'
'Give me another chance,' pleads Steve. 'You won't regret it.' Walking past him, Steve asks where she is going, then she tells him that she's going upstairs to think. 'What is there to think about?' asks Steve. 'A huge sigh is his response.
There are several amongst us who think that he might be better off if she did bail out. Just to mention in passing, Andrea might be pleased...
Later, Steve declares himself to be 'a secret free zone.' He and Michelle are back on track.
Tim and Sally are engaged. Muted congratulations here. Does either of them really want to get married? Sophie certainly doesn't seem to think so.
Good to see Kirk sticking up for his sister Maria and giving Marcus and Todd a dressing-down. Great to see such loyalty. Todd is rarely if ever put off and later is delighted to learn that Marcus loves him. Todd's facial expression was confusing and a little worrying. Is it the case that he is using Marcus?
With more brass neck than a dinner gong (thank you Vera Duckworth) Peter walks in to the factory and sits himself down. As he says, he owns 50% of the factory. There is someone at the factory door and it is Roy. Roy could achieve world peace with his own blend of diplomacy. Without a slight step back Roy tells Peter that he should go. He tells Carla that she will get through her heartache and that she is a strong, resilient woman. Carla admits to pulling the wool over most people's eyes - that she tells Roy this, shows just how much she trusts him. Roy thinks that Hayley would have been better at this but Carla says that he's doing alright. To show how low Carla feels she is, he says that she is uncertain who that strong, resilient woman is anymore.
Roy could have crumbled at the death of Hayley. He didn't. If anything, he has drawn strength from being her widower and it is this strength that we are witnessing regularly. Absolutely admirable.

That Eva! Wow, is she shining brightly now that mommy is gone. She was brilliant with Carla, and even made Todd seem human. Didn't think that was possible. More, please.
ReplyDeleteI really can't stand the Windass Armstrongs anymore. Tell his daughters about their private life. Have a big dinner but don't invite Faye. All stroppy all the time Katy. Dumber than a box of rocks Gary. And maybe you don't mention it when he's away, but given what she did for them, nobody bothered to tell Owen that Tina died. Or if they did, no body seemed to care. Owen liked Tina and was a good dad to two girls; no way would he not react. You'd think Gary at least would have punched something by now.

I don't think Todd ever really wanted Marcus, he just didn't want Maria to have him. Now that Marcus has declared his love, Todd will drop him like a hot brick.
ReplyDeleteI really don't get why Steve would beg Michelle to go back to him like that - he must like being treated like sh!t.
What really did Anna expect when she had to open her motor mouth to admit to her dirty little deed? Fed up to the back teeth of this family. Amazing how Marcus and Todd can sit in Roys all day, have a meal with umpteen coffees and then afford another meal with umpteen drinks and cocktails in the Bistro in the evening. What do they earn in the NHS up North?
ReplyDeleteMuch as I love Roy's new character, I hope the writers don't over-do it and have him dropping round to Carla all the time. It would be nice if Carla visited Roy, desperate for someone to confide in.
ReplyDeleteJust why did Anna have to tell the girls about Phelan? There's not one member of the family that I give tuppence about.
Marcus could easily dismiss his comment as a joke because it wasn't much of a declaration of love. He won't, of course, and that will be the end of Marcus. Todd is very witty but the novelty's worn off. We still don't know what happened in London so he's becoming another non-character.
I agree about Todd. I've believed from the start that he only took Marcus away from Maria because he was proving a point and because it was a challenge. He's a slimy little git that crawled out from under a rock, that Todd.
ReplyDeleteHow come Katy is trying to claim the moral highground? Didn't she cheat on Chesney with Ryan?
ReplyDeleteIt won't happen, but I wish Anna would stand up to Owen, and tell him that she only did it for the family, hated every minute with Phelan, and that if Owen can't accept that then he can *!@# off!
Hope that's the last we see of Ka-eee! Yes, she did cheat on Chesney with Ryan - too bad Anna hadn't brought that up. I'm sure Michelle will happily drag up the 'it's your fault Tina died and Carla lost her baby' anytime Steve gets out of hand grinding him down even further.
ReplyDeleteJust wish Marcus would leave already, unbelievable that he would put up with all the vile things Todd has to say to everyone - another character transformation overnight.
abbyk,I was also surprised of the lack of reaction to Tina's death from the Windasses especially Izzy as she seemed friendly with Tina.Perhaps they will be at her funeral? It's not the first time that a character's death was forgotten as Kevin was never told about Hayley's death when he returned and was having breakfast with Tyrone in the café.
ReplyDeleteIt creeped me right out when Anna told her boyfriends daughters that she had effed his worst enemy but Anna isn't the sharpest knife in the sky is she?
ReplyDeleteplease can sum 1 tell me the song playing in background of pub. about 17 mins in on Monday 9th june 2014 episode ( in pub as steve, liz and Lloyd are talking).. thanks
