Tina McIntyre's mum to return to Coronation Street

There's a Coronation Street spoiler in today's Daily Star that says Tina McIntyre's mum will return to hunt for her daughter's killer.

Tina’s mum Anna comes looking for answers as to who bumped off her daughter when she gets killed next month on screen.

Rita Tanner, takes Tina's devastated mum Anna, played by Lorraine Hodgson, under her wing as she tries to come to terms with her loss.

Tina's mum has been on Coronation Street before, played by a different actress.  Corriepedia reports that Anna McIntyre was first played by actress Sue Mitchell. She first appeared on Corrie in May 2008. She went storming round to the Platts' house and forbade Tina from seeing boyfriend, David, who was serving a detention order in Larchfield Young Offenders Institute. Anna and husband Joe had separated and Joe began a relationship with David's mother Gail Platt, which turned into a short-lived marriage before Joe's death. Anna didn't come to his funeral as she was too upset. Since Joe's death Tina has had little or no contact with her mother.

So blue eyed lady has brown eyed daughter with brown eyed Joe - not possible - and why turn up now, she was absent when Joe died and Tina needed her and has never been around. What is the point of bringing her in now, dont we have enough characters doing nothing much already Mr producer????

  2. It does seem a bit pointless, a new actress to play a character that hasn't been seen in Tina's life for nearly six years.

  3. She looks a bit young to be Tina's mum.

  4. John McE - would it not be a bit odd if Tina's mother did not appear given what's going to happen?

  5. She's returning to hunt down her daughters killer? Why now? Another quickly thrown together plot device which makes no sense, unless it's the vehicle for yet another love triangle. Wouldn't surprise me.

  6. She should've been referenced more in between appearances I think

  7. It's very odd that Tina has had no contact from her Mum for 6 years and has rarely ever mentioned her. Even when she has been at her lowest ebb when her Dad died, when she was pregnant, when she Rita was kidnapped on her wedding day. when Tommy left her She has taken Rita to be her guardian Angel. It seems rather pointless to recast someone now. Her Mum could have grieved for her off screen. The only people who will care when she's gone are Rita and David. I actually thought her Mother was Spanish or South American seeing as her skin is so dark. Not that it would be fake of course as thats never been mentioned.

  8. People moan that its pointless bringing her back, yet if she didn't return you lot would complain why she wasn't there.

And even though Anna didn't appear for 6 years, Tina still lived with her off-screen for at least a year, and still mentioned her occasionally. I am surprised though they never took the opportunity to make out of her more all this time.

  9. i'm sure she will be mentioned ad nauseum in the days approaching the dirty deed. She may as well be dead, bringing her back is pointless. Two Annas at once, oy.

Add Gail to the people who will (should!) mourn Tina - they have a sweet but rarely seen step relationship.

  10. No one else has a legal right to ask questions and demand results from the police (Gail is only her step-mother) so the storyline requires Tina's mother. Once again, an ill-conceived plot is being foisted upon us. Sigh!

  11. I agree with most; I have a feeling, ( hope I'm wrong) that Tina's mum will be sticking around, honestly, nothing seems far-fetched in this show anymore, and I think we already have too many characters popping in and out.
Gail and Tina were great together, back in the day, some of Tina's best and by me, best remembered scenes were with Gail.

  12. Its rather a strange casting. Looks nothing like Tina, was there no one out there with the same eye colour of similar skin tone to Michelle Keegan.

I hope this doesn't lead to her being the killer just for an easy exit.

  13. I doubt she'll be long term. And it wouldn't make sense if she didn't at least ask a few hard questions and mourn her daughter and I hope they make her feel guilty and regretful for not having much contact. I want her to be surprised about the baby Tina had for Izzy and Gary (two more to mourn her and don't forget Steph) I hope her personality makes it clear why she and Tina never had contact or didn't seem to get along etc.

They should cast Suranne Jones as Tina's mother as they look very alike - but what's the point of suddenly bringing her in just to shout the odds. No doubt she will be working at the factory before long or have an affair with some bloke on the street which is the usual pattern before being "kept on" a la Jenna and Mandy and being just another spare part.

  15. Perhaps Tina's ungrateful 'best friend' Xin is the killer? She took everything else away from Tina, so why not her life?

  16. Odd. Very odd.
As for two Anna's on one show...lmao.
In real life names are duplicated.....so this rare event is actually believable.
As for the blue eye brown eye thing....what! First of all - yes - it is possible. Secondly...who has ever been hired on this soap for their eye colour?
This show gets stranger and stranger as to its underuse of beloved characters...and entry of new characters who we really do not care about.

  17. TVOR - you sure are earning your moniker here. Totally with your angle and hopes abour srprises for Anna. People do become estranged frokm their parents. No matter what, this show is one big free ride for me. Still getting my jolly's. Lovin' Steve and Lloyd again, dysfunctional Barlow quips, David ,the toothpaste and Maria. YA! It's all here!

  18. Since Rita will befriend Tina's mum and will most likely tell her about little Jake,I hope this doesn't lead to a custody battle between her and the Windasses for her 'grandson'.
