Deirdre's specs get security escort to Coronation Street tour

Deirdre’s glasses have arrived in spectacular fashion to the former Coronation Street set at Quay St in Manchester as security delivered the final iconic artefact to site.

The glasses, one of the most iconic and valuable props, were released from the archive vault at MediaCity to be loaned to the tour on the provision that they are displayed with 24 hour surveillance.

Arriving by security escort at 9am, Deirdre’s glasses were signed over and placed inside a security tight display unit where they will remain alongside other iconic props such as Ena Sharples’ hair net, Hilda Ogden’s curlers and Vera Duckworth’s hooped earrings for the next six months.

Coronation Street The Tour opens to the public this weekend for a limited time and will grant visitors an access all areas pass to behinds the scenes of the Coronation Street. For the first time ever guests will be able to take a peek into a star’s dressing room, step into wardrobe and glimpse inside selected interior sets. There will also be the chance to down the cobbles one final time.

Thirty six tour guides have been recruited and embarked on an intensive training programme where they have immersed themselves in 53 years of Coronation Street’s history. They are now ready to guide visitors through the tour where they will reveal filming secrets and backstage antics direct from Coronation Street sources.

With the finishing touches now made, all of the windows have been cleaned, lawns mowed, the sets dressed and the floors have been swept all ready to greet the first visitors who snapped up tickets to the opening day after going on sale last month.

  1. You gotta be kidding me. Full-on Robocop to deliver Deirdre's goggles? Makes you wonder how the actual Deirdre get's transported about...

  3. Silly - Violet Carson used lots of hairnets over the years by her own admission and I'm sure Jean Alexander got through loads of curlers
