14 Coronation Street actors given new contracts

According to The Sun today, 14 Coronation Street cast members have had their contracts renewed and/or been given a pay rise.  I guess this means that none of those characters listed below can be Tina McIntyre's murderer unless they commit the crime and get away with it and not be shipped off to the big house.

Seven of the 14 actors given new contracts are, according to the tabloid report:

Samia Ghadie (Maria Connor)
Kate Ford (Tracy Barlow)
Alan Halsall (Tyrone Dobbs)
Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw)
Sam Aston (Chesney Brown)
Katie McGynn (Sinead Tinker)
Tisha Merry (Steph Britton)

The paper says that there are big, dramatic (when aren't there?) storylines coming up for Chesney and Sinead.  And that's fine in my book!

Terrible Tracy and Pointless Maria over and over again.

  2. We'll look back at this period as one of the downs in Corrie history. The list of actors getting renewed contracts is not encouraging. We're just coasting along at the moment.

  3. And for me, I think Corrie has been really good lately. Glad to see Tisha Merry getting renewed, as well as Katie McGynn

  4. More Tracy & Maria? Shoot me now:( No doubt Michelle, Sophie, Maddeh and Katy are among the other 'popular' characters who will be given new contracts...

  5. The only point at which there will be any significant change in my eyes is when Corrie isn't in the awards list anymore. Until that point, producers feel they have a good thing. Sadly, in my eyes, most of the actors are competent. My complaint is the lazy writing.

  6. I agree that in Almost All of the cases, the writing is what's at fault, not the actors.

Never in my years of watching have I ever felt as dissatisfied with what used to be the best show around. Never have I not cared if I missed an episode, and never have I left to do something else when a certain couple has appeared on the screen.

But if Corrie's on to a good thing, ratings wise, then who cares what many loyal viewers think?

  7. I'm happy that Samia Ghadie will be back, but more Kate Ford? What have we done to deserve that?

  8. What we need to see is a list of new writers given contracts for this show!!

  9. I have watched Corrie for over 40 years and in the last 6 months I can't believe how many times I have chosen something else to watch. What a disappointment the show is now.

  10. My complaint in the show is the producers. The writers only write the dialogue. It would be unfair to critizise them, as when they're given good material to write about they really shine. Corrie need a new producer, I think it would be nice to see a woman in charge of the show, it's been a little while. It just needs some oomph. Whether they win the Best Soap at the BSA's is left to be seen but, Corrie not as strong as it was and can be. The actors are good, it's just the material that's slacking..

  11. Well to me it is depressing that Maria and Tracy are on that list. I agree with Stephen Feldman, as long as people are voting of course the producers and writers are feeling that they are doing something great. Basically they are relying on affairs and breakups, one after another, as we are seeing with Maria going after Tyrone. The writers and producers are stuck in the theme of infidelity and can't seem to get past that.

  12. I personally am fine with this list! There are others that I'd prefer to see the back of. I think I'm in the minority of people who don't mind Tracy. (and though I may share a first name I am *not* Kate Ford - haha).

  13. Beige Stella is gone so it is time to grab hold of the old chew toy Tracy. She has provided us with a lot of entertainment over the years. As for the grin that irritates so many....that seems a little personal. She can only say the lines the writers give her and she only has the face God gave her. I hope she never reads the posts on here about herself. If she does I hope she laughs and says.....at least I have a job and do not spend time criticizing others. lol

  14. I agree with above post. I'd rather Tracy than Maria and Sophie any day. At least Tracy is capable of showing a range of emotions, isn't dull, and doesn't mumble incessantly.

That would be Tracy Barlow - she got away with it once.

  16. I don't really think these stories are proper news. Is it really a shock the likes of Maria, Tracy, Tyrone, Jason or Chesney are getting kept on? They are technically the Corrie lifers. Plus there is always a news story about how some actors are getting bumped contracts and pay rises, but so does every other actor. Better news is those who will be leaving the show.

  17. I find that some actors that really get under my skin are the ones that are good actors and are worth watching and yes I mean Tracy and, hate to say it, Norris. Irritating the viewer is what they get paid to do.

Maria (and Sophie), sorry, but she can't act.

    Agree with Dyan Holemans

  18. For truly bad acting, revisit Adam Rickitt's scenes in the abortion storyline with Leanne (1999). It's a credit to Jane Danson that she carried her part with nothing real to react to. Brooke Vincent (2014) looks like Oscar material by comparison.

  19. That list would be better if was for actors given their walking papers instead of contract renewals.
