There's a good interview in the TV Times with Chris Gascoyne, who plays Coronation Street's Peter Barlow.
Chris talks about leaving his role as Peter Barlow in Corrie after playing him for 14 years, and also talks about the place that Buddhism has in his life. Chris says that it was while he was on a Buddhist retreat in Scotland last year that he decided to leave the soap.
Chris has been interested in Buddhism around 12 years ago and says that meditation is now a part of his everyday life. "I meditate for about 15 minutes or half an hour every day. As an actor, you're constantly thinking about a character and what's the most interesting way to play it. It can consume you and send you a little bit insane. If you find something like meditation you just sit down and you can back to yourself, you don't let the fantasy intrude in the reality. It's a big part of my life and I'm glad I found it."
Chris says he'd like to act in a play next and that he'd also like to go to Plum Village, a Buddhist retreat in France.

You can tell..he looks very zen.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that annoys me about Peter is his constant smoking. We have cigarette adverts banned, they are hidden behind sliding doors in supermarkets yet we have a prominent soap character puffing away in every scene. Doesnt make a good impression in this day and age.
