William Roache's sex abuse court case begins this week

William Roache, who plays Coronation Street's Ken Barlow - and holds the Guinness World Record for the longest-serving soap star in the world - starts his trial for sex abuse charges this week.

The court case begins on Tuesday 14 January at Preston Crown Court.

The Mirror today has a story, of sorts, using quotes from "friends of Bill" saying;  “He knows this is going to be the fight of his life and he is ready for it."

In September 2013, Mr Roache, 81, from Wilmslow, Cheshire, pleaded not guilty to two counts of raping a 15-year-old girl in East Lancashire in 1967.

He also denied five counts of indecent assault involving four girls in Manchester in the mid to late 1960s.
