Analysing Peter Barlow

I've been thinking a lot about this Tina and Peter thing.  I know to most people it seems a bit of a stretch but I think it's a lot more plausible than the icky Molvin pairing of a few years ago.

Peter's had a year that's kicked him squarely in the ego and Tina's on the rebound. You could see this train wreck coming a mile away.  Carla should have as well. After all, she stole him from Leanne in the first place and he *does* have the Barlow genes.

Read more about it here.

  1. Leanne told Carla right at the beginning: 'He's not in love with you, he's addicted to you.' She was right and won't she be pleased to remind Carla of the fact. However, we are savvy fans and we know that any analysis is only the rationalisation of what the writers have quickly cobbled together, following the departures (past, planned and possible) of three actors. Just for the fun of it, and I don't suppose this even occurred to the writers before they knew CG was leaving, Tina has a crush on her employer (could have been her teacher in another storyline). Her employer, Peter, is weak and can't resist temptation and, seeing an easy kill, goes for it. That's all there is to it - if you want to go down the line of character development and not plot panic. I don't see much smouldering chemistry between Peter and Tina; Eva would have worked better but that actor's not leaving. No doubt, we'll see a lot of lineage in the soap mags from Peter and Tina, but I can't buy it. Just plot panic.

  2. I totally agree Humpty.
And .... I think that Peter cannot love any one woman. He had Shelly, but it wasn't enough...so he married Lucy but that wasn't enough.
He cheated on Leanne - he was supposedly in rehab but left it to go on a cruise with another woman. He got her back and he found out about the Nick affair...he married her anyway. But when she wanted a child with him - which showed her total commitment then it was too much and Carla caught his eye.
Now Carla has him...but the closer he gets to the wedding ....Tina catches his eye.
    Interesting.....
With Tina and Leanne it is 'aww look how good she is with Si' but with Carla it was all about him and he was willing to give up everything. Yes Carla is an addiction....not true love.
Sorry for the ramble. I think we put more thought into this stuff than the writers. lol

  3. Sorry but I just cringe throughout the Peter/Tina scenes. They look like father and daughter. The storyline is so contrived and laughable - and it's predominantly about shoehorning Tina 'I'm in everyone's business' McIntyre into another big storyline. Thank God she's going next year.
When you consider how subtle and well-told Peter's connection with Carla was (3 years ago) this really is a joke in comparison.

Btw the storyline gets worse. Tina also gets with Rob to make Peter jealous.

As for the whole thing with Leanne. Please. Leanne was cheating on Peter with Nick!

I'm not going to say I think Peter and Carla are perfect but people love them together and even after 3 years, I see people are still rooting for them.

Chris Gascoyne recently said that "Peter loves the absolute bones of Carla. She's the love of his life, there's no denying that."

I agree with him and I have no interest in watching Peter cheat on 'the love of his life' with a random girl who's just been forced into his life 2 weeks before his wedding.

  4. No amount of justification can make this "relationship" remotely plausible. It's cringeworthy.

  5. She's going to take a hit from Rob as well? Good heavens, I hope Carla kills her but Tracy goes down for it!
