Eva and Jason: A step too far?

Sometimes the happenings down Coronation Street are just plain weird. I must thank "Moritica" for inspiring this little blog post with a comment left on another post earlier in the week. I know Corrie is a fictional continuing drama/soap but sometimes the plots stretch realism so far I'm surprised they don't come right back and smack the writers in the face.

We are about to witness the pairing of Eva Price and Jason Grimshaw. On the surface, not a problem. They are probably very well suited in their own way. However, probe a little deeper and you may recall Jason's ill-advised liaison with Stella. Yes, Eva will soon be courted by her mother's ex-boyfriend.

I guess these coincidences do happen. However, go back a little further and we remember Eva's involvement (albeit chaste) with Eric, her grandmother's fiance. And while you, dear reader, attempt to unboggle your mind, we can add in Eva's doomed relationship with her half-sister's ex (and now unconscious husband), Nick(y) Tilsley.

Is it just me, or is that all a bit much to contemplate of a Friday lunchtime? It's all a bit too Jeremy Kyle for my liking and not necessarily what I want from Corrie. Don't get me wrong, I quite like Eva and I also like Jason. I just get an involuntary shudder when I run through the events I've just described. Am I alone?!

  1. It is a bit too Jeremy Kyle, as you say, but it is a sad fact that such goings-on are normal in some families and not too far removed from reality!

  2. Hasnt Eva already been down the Jason route so to speak, it didnt work out for some reason, so why put them together again, just smacks of lazy writing.

  3. She dated Jason once to make Nick jealous but Jason saw through it.

Mike Baldwin - Deirdre and Ken's daughter Susan.
    Kylie with Nick and David
Sarah with both Todd and Jason
    Leanne with Danny and Jamie
Linda Sykes with Mike and his son Mark.
Charlie Stubbs with Bev and Shelley.
    Dev with Deirdre and Tracy.
Happens all the time in soaps!

  4. Jeez Tvor, I threw up in my mouth a little! While the dating pool is notorious shallow on a soap, Eva & Jason doesn't make much sense. They're dullards separately, together they're dullards squared!

Aaargh, what is happening to the folks on "the Street" it's as though, they've all become brain donors.

Wait a minute! Is this planned? Is it part of a scheme perhaps? Could it be? The writers are cooking up a Corrie Zombie Apocalypse show for Halloween?!! (I've got goosebumps!)

Hope I haven't spoiled it. If this isn't the plan, feel free to use the idea - I'm willing to accept payment in Can$ instead of £!

  5. It does have that 'ick' factor and maybe they should have held off until nearer the time of the Beige One's leaving since it will only take about 5 minutes for everyone to forget St. Ella once she has left.

  6. Didn't Tracy sleep with Nick and David shortly after she got out of prison, as revenge on the Platts?
Nick slept with both Becky and Kylie
Tracy slept with Blanche's bf Wally (?)
When Dev was dating that young Indian woman whose name escapes me, he had an affair with her mother first (resulting in that nude photo of him going up on the street as revenge)
Carla of course slept with her husband Paul Connor and his brother Liam

  7. I've quite clearly unleashed all kinds of wrong with this blog!

  8. And we all know that Jason will end up being dumped or the relationship will probably end before the year is out. None of his relationships last long, which does get a little tiring now and again.

Characters need to learn to go outside the street and get a life away from it.

  9. What about that "eeuuuw!!!" one with Danny Baldwin's wife and his son? Jamie?

  10. Yes JB, the Frankie, Jamie, Danny one went too far! A shame as I quite liked all three characters.

Eva follows the same pattern though, so it'll be interesting to see who does the dumping -- it'll be like the irrestible force meeting the immovable object. ;)

Re: Baldwins -- Leanne went out with both Danny and Jamie...

  12. Could be that Jason is the link that keeps Eva on the Street when Mother and Gran leave. I hope that's the case because Eva is worth saving but would need a reason to stay. I don't know what the time scale is for Eva/Jason (and, of course, he is the only available hunk at the moment) but the relationship needs to be solid before she decides against leaving with the others. Anyway, Jason and Stella weren't together that long. Would have been far worse if Eva had hooked up with Karl.Definitely ick.

  13. Ugh, I need more coffee -- I've listed some which have already been mentioned. Sorry!

  14. The problem is not Eva and Jason, it's Stella and Jason. One of the stupidest pairings ever.

  15. Jim and Steve Mcdonald with Fiona. Jack and Terry Duckworth with Dulcie Frogget (although not seen on screen :)) Ken and Elsie (sorry that was real life!)

  16. Pod said: No, you are not alone in your thoughts about these two. I think it is ridiculous for Jason to try to "out" Karl as the killer and the one who set the fire and in the midst of it all "save" Stella from Karl only to end up in Eva's bed! Who does that? Perhaps a man who is only thinking with what is in his pants????

  17. The only reason they had Stella and Jason as a couple was to add to all that Karl had lost, to where he got to the point where he felt he had nothing to lose so he made a desperate move to burn down the pub, not knowing Stella was still inside.

  18. The Danny/Frankie/Jamie one was by far the worst to me. It was a real stomach churner and ruined the characters. Viewers hated it and I'm sure the actors involved found it 'icky'. They all ended up leaving, although Jamie did stay on for a while...

  19. Oh I agree! All three were decent characters too so it was a shame. Jamie was a particular favourite of mine ;)

  20. I know i'm probably in the minority but i loved Frankie and Jamie's relationship. Though Leanne and Danny's made my skin crawl. Leanne also slept with Mark Redman, along with Jamie and Danny

  21. When Eva got with Nick, remember Leanne was still a stranger that was turning her world upside down. It would have been worse if it were Toyah.
With Gloria's fella - there was nothing sexual involved. Eva felt bad for the man her gran was playing for financial benefit and she felt a connection with him as she just wanted someone to want her - much as he did.
I think they should have put Eva and Jason together in the first place....but obviously the writers had other ideas. Either way...as cited by the long list of icky matchings - we should not be over shocked or indignant at all I guess.
Yuckiest for me of all time was the Frankie and Jamie storyline. She was a mother to him since age 5 I think it was...I could not wrap my head around it and fast forwarded a lot of it - stopping for dirty looks and rude comments they were given.
