“We want the royal baby to come and open the new street," says John Whiston to the Star. “It would be fantastic to get Kate, William and George there with a pair of tiny baby scissors. The soap has a long historical connection with the Royal Family so having the newest arrival on the set would be perfect.”
The Star says that Corrie hopes to feature the baby in a special episode to make up for failing to cover his birth last month. John explained: “We didn’t have time to put the birth in a storyline. We did with the Jubilee but we knew what date that would happen!”
Other UK royals who have appeared in Coronation Street either on-screen or off include Prince Charles, Camilla and the Queen.
Prince Charles appeared in the live episode of the 40th anniversary of the Street in 2000.
The Queen and Prince Philip visited Coronation Street's new exterior set in 1982.
