Liz McDonald returning to Coronation Street

Fabulous news in today from the official Coronation Street website at itv.com/corrie who confirm that that Liz McDonald will be returning to Coronation Street!

Liz will be back on our screens in October.

She left the ITV soap fearing she was slipping into depression that had led to a breakdown in 2009. Street bosses believe she can cope now after she toured with hit stage show Little Voice this year.  We saw her on stage in Little Voice in Scarborough and she was fantastic - read the review here.

I'm overjoyed by this news and hope Liz will take up her rightful post behind the bar of the Rovers once again.  What do you think?

Well if this is true - and the Daily Mirror has a history of publishing stored that prove to be unfounded - then its great news but what about Stella - she really needs to go but her contract has been renewed by the idiots upstairs.

  4. Shanny said: I hope so. I love her as Steve's mom and as the barmaid at The Rovers. Please, I hope this is true. :)

  5. Hopefully, Liz will march into the Rovers, pull Stella out by her hair, and throw her onto the cobbles.... walk back in and start pulling pints. Ain't going to happen though, more's the pity.

Or perhaps someone could find a letter stuffed down the back of a drawer that shows Liz has been the rightful owner all along... no, too ridiculous, they'd never do that, surely ;-)

  6. Yes agree, Far. Far better than Stella! Stella is absolutely hopeless and should go asap. Liz McDonald so superior in comparison because she is also a real northerner!

  7. Errrr nerrrrr!

  8. Yay! Bye bye St.Ella!

  9. But is it a short stay or open-ended? The report doesn't say...

  10. The Mirror reports it's for 6 months initially with a view to becoming permanent.

  11. Thanks Nora! We can only hope they are planning for her to wrest the Rovers back from the Beige Bore:)

Would take this with a large pinch of salt, wasnt Beverly Callard sacked as she took too much time off? What would she do if she returned permanently to the Street? Bit long in the tooth for affair after affair and the Prices are going to be in the Rovers until 2014 so whats the point of her return really?

  13. ITV have confirmed it, so no need for any pinches of salt, large or otherwise :-)

  14. YESSSSSSS Liz is one of my all time favourite characters and I really hope she gets to be back in the Rovers where she belongs!

  15. Christ, she's made more returns than Sinatra.

  16. Great news! It also means she can hang out with her old pal, Deirdre. They are wonderful together. If Ken doesn't reappear, Deirdre would need a character to play off against. Either way, it gives new developments to the Barlow and MacDonald family.

  17. Oh please let her detest Michelle as much as I do and march her out of town in the most painful way possible.

  18. Hopefully this isn't just another rumour.

Really looking forward to this, I missed Liz.

  20. It IS official - that's why I have linked and quoted the official Coronation Street website in the first paragraph of the post!

  21. I just realised there was a lot more comments in here than I first thought lol, I musnt have scrolled down.

  22. Happy that she is coming back to Corrie but was disappointed when we went to see Little Voice, she was "off sick" for the entire week's run.

  23. Good news for sure then!!

  24. That's wonderful news - we can't wait to have her back on our screens. Like others have said, it'd be good if she put Stella in her place, and if, as the ITV article suggests, she's helping Steve with a 'crisis' with Michelle, hopefully she'll do the right thing and suggest he gets rid of her!!

  25. Quite happy to say that I've never liked her and never will. All she ever seemed to do was shout and worked well as a barmaid but never a landlady.

    I'm suddenly starting to warm to St Ella . . . :)

  26. I really liked her character in the early years of the McDonalds but less so towards the end. Pleased she's coming back though if it means Stella loses the Rovers...Here's hoping!

  27. We can only hope for some nude scenes.

  28. Sounds like the beginning of the end for Coronation Street.
I could see it if it was for a few episodes such as they've done for Tyrone's mum but as a permanent return I just can't see it working.
Where is she going to live - with Steve, Michelle, Ryan, Katy and Joseph or with Ken, Dierdre, Tracy and Ami.
And what is she going to do I can't see any way she could buy Stella out of the Rovers and it sure wouldn't work with her as a bar maid especially with Gloria in charge.
Towards the end her character had turned into another Bet Lynch with no redeeming qualities what so ever better to leave her out.

  29. Yes, Yes, Yes, love the character and please, please let this be the fading out of ST. Ella of beige.

  30. Love it! Love it!! Love it!!!

I always love when Liz returns to Weatherfield! She's exactly what they need right now to throw St Ella of the Back Room out of the Rovers and get things back on track. The only thing that would be better would be if Big Jim showed up too.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oooh, just a thought, can you imagine the ructions between Jim and Owen? It would be great!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hooray, this had made my year! The rovers has not been the same since she left. I loved all her scenes with Steve & Becky and how she hated Becky. She is a brilliant actress and strong northern woman, which is what corrie is all about. Unfortunately Michelle Collins has been miscast and now it seems Stuart Blackburn is no fan of Stella's either. I bet he made it his first job not to renew her contract.

  33. I just had a thought....once Stella exits Janice Battersby could come back and be Leeanes real Mum again. It always grated on me how quick Leanne was to call Stella "mum" when she always called Janice "jan"

  34. Thank you TPTB for bringing back my all time favorite Corrie character! I love La Liz! NOW I can start watching again. Best Corrie news ever for me! :)

  36. Hehe I kinda want a Liz-Stella feud. Just for Liz to go 'That's not how you run a pub, you moron!'

*sigh* I've missed Liz. Really missed her.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I might start watching again if she returns and you-know-who goes.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Don't know why she was a nasty mother and a nasty mother in law her sons happiness was never good enough for her.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh, if only Jim could get out of jail on a technicality like Tracy - then it would be perfect! Glad to hear Liz is coming back, hopefully to eventually run the Rovers again. I can see fireworks between her and Boria.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Jim is in for armed robbery, correct? Anything else? He might be eligible for parole then.

Oh, how I would love to see Snarl and Beigy vs. La Liz and Big Jim. Liz and Jim would sort those 2 out in no time at all. And Boria, too. :) Although Snarl would probably be long gone from the street before that could even ever happen.

I'm hoping against hope that Liz regains her Rovers landlady status and brings back Steve to Rovers, too.

Oh, I'm just giddy over the possibilities. I have really, really missed La Liz!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yes! I have missed Liz. Can't wait to see her back on screen. I agree it would be great to see both her and Jim back. I also enjoyed the chemistry between Liz and Vernon. Remember how they parted with her finally deciding she wanted to be with Vernon but when she ran to go with him, he had already left, thinking she had decided against going with him...maybe they found each other in Spain again?

  42. I hope she dresses like a mature woman when/if she returns and not like a slutty teenager. It won't work, Liz. Not anymore.

  43. Yuck. I can't stand Liz. I was hoping she was gone for good.
