Liz Dawn in hospital after heart attack

Liz Dawn, the 73-year-old actress who played Vera Duckworth in Coronation Street, has been rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack at home.

The Mirror reports that the 73-year-old actress, who played Vera Duckworth in the ITV soap, was taken to casualty with chest pains.

Liz was at home in Whitefield, Greater Manchester with husband Donald Ibbertson when she was taken ill. Donald said last night: “She had a slight heart attack. She is all right.”  Friends revealed the actress had been allowed home to recuperate.

Fellow Corrie stars last night rallied round Liz, who quit the show due to the incurable lung disease emphysemia.

Sue Nicholls, who plays salon boss Audrey Roberts, said: “She is a real trooper, she will get through this.” Sue's husband Mark Eden, former Corrie brute Alan Bradley, added: “Liz is a great woman, I’m sure she’ll pull through.”
