Fans vote Vera Duckworth as favourite Baldwin's Casuals worker

Coronation Street Blog readers have voted for Vera Duckworth as their favourite Baldwin's Casuals employee. Vera was one of two employees who worked at the factory from when it first opened in 1976 until it closed in 1989. 239 of you voted and 108 (45.19%) voted for Vera. She was a clear lead from the beginning and was 69 votes ahead of her closest competitor.

In second place came Hilda Ogden with 39 votes (16.32%). Hilda worked as the factory cleaner from 1977 to 1987. Close behind with 38 votes (15.9%) was Elsie Tanner who was a supervisor and machinist between 1976 and 1983.

Shop steward Ivy Tilsley came in fourth place with 22 votes (9.21%). As well as shop steward, Ivy also served as supervisor from time to time. It was her, along with Vera, that worked at the factory for the full 13 years of function.

Tied in fifth place are machinist Ida Clough and wages clerk Emily Bishop with 12 votes (5.02%). Ida worked there for a decade between 1978 and 1988 while Emily was hired in 1982 and served until the factory closed in 1989.

Tied in sixth place are wages clerk Ernest Bishop and trainee manager Steve Fisher with 3 votes (1.26%). Ernest was Mike Baldwin's right hand man until he was gunned down in a wages snatch in 1978, having been the first person that Mike hired when he set up shop in 1976. Steve was originally the factory's van driver in 1977 before he replaced Ernest as Mike's right hand man.

In seventh place was George Wardle, who was the factory's van driver between 1985 and 1986. Briefly engaged to Ivy, he received 2 votes (0.84%).

Sadly, Shirley Armitage, who was a machinist between 1983 and 1989, received no votes at all.
