Will you miss Sunita Alahan?

Sunita dies tonight on Coronation Street.

She first appeared on the Street back in March 2001 so that's 12 years she's been a part of the Street, but will anyone miss her? I don't think I will and I wish she'd take Dev with her. The twins can stay though, I quite like the twins. And the aunties can come back. I quite liked the aunties.

Since she's been on the cobbles, Sunita's worked in the corner shop, and had a relationship with Duggie Feguson. He died. She got engaged to Ciaran McCarthy and jilted him at the altar. She had a one night stand with Danny Baldwin, developed a brain tumour and has been tied up by mad Maya. After marrying Dev and giving birth to the twins her final ruination came with her affair with Karl Munro after working as a barmaid in the Rovers Return.

Not a great life for a woman on the cobbles, then, and one I didn't particularly enjoy watching. Anyway, they are my thoughts. I won't miss Sunita. Will you?

Not a jot. Didnt mind Sunita in the early days, I remember that Dev saved her from a loveless arranged marraige and she was quite a good character. Then they insisted on hoiking her back in a totally unbelievable scenario that she would leave a handsome fiance and a big desireable property to return to Dev to live in a two up two down with a yard. A big mistake as she was ruined.

  2. Given the choice, I'd rather they ditched Dev and kept Sunita.

  3. Why do so many people not like Dev ? I would definitely miss him if he left Corrie. Jimmi Harkishin s portrayal makes me laugh but he can always come up with the tears too . They may be from a tear stick but they r pretty convincing when pouring out from his big brown eyes. He can play sexy too when called for . Please give him a break. As for Sunita - miss her ? - not really

  4. I miss any of the characters I grew up watching to a certain extent, and Sunita was definitely someone I remember watching.

Saying that I don't think I'll miss her much, she never seemed to fit in to any of the groups of friends on the street so spent her life behind the counter, definitely one of the people on the street you wouldn't want to be.

Unfortunately I think we might have to endure more Dev until this storyline moves on somewhere.

  5. I agree with Anonymous - I like Dev (probably in the minority here!) and I think that he and Sunita in a 'normal' relationship would have worked fine. Sunita would have balanced Dev's excesses and Sunita could have 'grown' more into the role of mentor that she seemed to have taken on with Sophie. Sunita could have been a real mother figure on the Street, and that potential is what I will miss. I won't miss Strumpet Sunita and that is a real shame.

Really loving the kids at the moment too, they seem to be growing into their roles.

  6. I'm afraid not. I wouldn't miss any of the Alahans and that's not being nasty. They were just wallpaper, which is fair enough, but then Sunita morphed into something unrecognisable. If I think 'who would I really miss', there's only a few characters - Roy, Peter, Haley, the oldies. We'll have forgotten Sunita in six months and Dev will be onto his next relationship.

  7. I miss Sunita the way she used to be.

  8. I liked Sunita up until her personality transplant when she went to work for St Ella of the Backroom.

As for Dev, I just want to chime in and say that I have always liked him too. He's not necessarily the most likeable or best acted part, but I always find him entertaining.

  9. Agree with Dolly. Will miss the potential for her character before the hasty stultification.

  10. Liked the original Sunita, not who she was turned into, but probably won't miss her. I'd like to see Dev with someone totally unexpected by everyone - though at the moment I can't think who.

  11. I will definitely miss Sunita. I loved Sunita and Dev together. I am glad Dev is staying. And the twins. I think Dev is very good in the role.

  12. I liked Sunita, but it's too early for me to say I'll miss her, since she hasn't left yet on screen.

I also like Dev and Jimmi Harkishin. I never find him boring.

  13. I really liked this character. She was really down to earth, warm and caring and a shoulder to cry on.
Then, out of the blue..WHAM..the writers decide to destroy her completely and turn her into a total douche. It was hard to watch and I don't wonder that the actress wanted out. I didn't buy into the Karl/Sunita affair at all..it looked totally uncomfortable on screen. Too bad but that's soapland for you.
Get some new writers with imagination or this show will go the way of EE..the actors jumping ship all over the place.

  14. I liked her in the beginning. I don't mind Dev and Sunita but as background characters, I don't feel like either of them can hold a storyline.

Good actress+ potentially good character+ stupid storylining = unsalvagable bl**dy mess.

  16. Nope.

She shouldn't have come back in the first place.

  17. As so many people have said, a once great character, ruined by grim storylines.

There was a brief ray of light when her and Dev were happy, and there was the Aunties storyline - great stuff!

Again, I'd echo what some other commentaroes have said: why so much animositiy for Dev? He's a great character, with a strong performance by Jimmi Harkishin. He always makes me smile when he's onscreen.

  18. Yes, I'd echo the others - a good character brought down by rubbish storylining in the last few years. I'm sorry to see her go, but I do think the fire story is absolutely brilliant, I love the development of Karl as Supervillain and the massive comeuppance he is due should be some superb viewing. So she's probably worth dispensing with for the greater good of the show.

However, I must say I've loved Shobna Ghulati since she was in dinnerladies and I only wish her every success in whatever she does in the future because she's a bloody good actress.

  19. Will I miss Sunita? No. And she should take the discredited Karl, smiling Dev and the two kids with her.

I can't believe that anyone thinks Dev is a great character. Do you not listen to him mangling his lines or watch his facial contortions?
