Fans vote for Classic Corrie to be shown on TV

In a landslide victory, fans have voted for old Coronation Street episodes to be broadcast on TV.

575 of you voted in total and a colossal 469 (81.57%) said that they wanted to take a trip down memory lane and see classic characters like Elsie, Ena, Annie, Hilda and Albert back on our screens. Of all the polls I've done, this is by far the biggest majority vote ever! And maybe the biggest of any poll?

42 (7.3%) voted that they would only watch the current episodes.

29 (5.04%) voted that they wouldn't watch them and that believed the past should be left where it was.

18 (3.13%) voters were unsure if the episodes would be as good as when they were originally broadcast.

17 (2.96%) voted that there are too many repeats as it is!

As the poll moderator, I'm very happy with the results. As I've only been a fan since the early 2000s, it would be great to see episodes from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s for the very first time. And I'm sure many share that view. Others of course who've watched Corrie for decades would enjoy taking a trip down memory lane.

While I respect those who feel that the episodes won't be as good or that the past should be left where it is, I do feel that old Corrie episodes are as fresh as ever. While other repeated drama serials seem to lose their spark the second time round, it is true to say that Corrie has stood the test of time. I can vouch for that, having seen episodes as far back as the early 1960s on the internet and find they're still as good now as they were 50 years ago.

Are you pleased with the results?

  1. ITV has four channels - surely they could find a space on one of them to show Coronation Street from the very beginning? The days of two or three channels are long gone, so for those who do not wish to watch them, there is plenty of other choice.

What I've never understood is why Granada so diligently preserved each and every episode, only for them to sit on shelves, unwatched for decades. And the longer they sit there, the lower the chance of us ever seeing them again.

In an age where so much vintage TV has been made available, it just kills me that there are years of classic episodes featuring Annie, Ena, Minnie, Elsie, Hilda etc. just gathering dust.

I hope you will pass the poll results onto ITV and see if there is any response.

  2. I totally agree with the above comment, and will something actually be done with this poll? can it be taken further, like the gentleman above has said. ITV3 would be ideal to show these episodes again!

  3. We should start a petition. If ITV knows enough people want it, you never know.
