Your Corrie heroes and villains

Simple question this time. This is mainly because it's Sunday and I'm feeling particularly languid. Languid as a lily, as Kenneth Williams used to say. Anyway I wanted to post something that would receive interesting replies so that when Countryfile comes on later I have something Corrie-related to distract me.

So here goes. If you had to pick one Coronation Street character who you particularly love at the moment and one you particularly hate, who would they be? Only one each please, and remember I am asking for characters, not actors! Let's keep it nice!

If I had to choose, given recent events on the cobbles, I'd opt for the fabulous, fragrant Mrs Audrey Roberts as my current favourite, mainly due to her conduct during the Lewis/Gail climax (Ok, sorry for using the word climax here).

And the character I currently dislike the most would have to be Rob Whatsisname from t'faktry. I know I have previously said he serves no purpose, but I'd rather that than see him draft Tracy-luv into the faktry! Please, God, save us all!

So let's have your Corrie hero(ine) and villain(ess) from the past few weeks. And help distract me from Countryfile!

  1. This is going to be interesting because I wonder, with the wide age range of fans, if people will choose someone around their own age. OK, on that basis, I choose Audrey! I've always liked her and she has been terrific in this story, dignified and composed. I don't think we've ever seen her scrapping on the street. As for the villian, it would have to be Kirsty. The soap really needs a long-term villian, like Mike Baldwin, and Kirsty will soon be gone. Nooooo, Tracy does not fit the bill. She's more in the 'Is she still here?' category.

  2. I thought Sid James said 'languid as a lilly' on Carry on cruising - Kenneth Williams was very impressed by it though (in his psychiatrist role) - sorry for being pedatic - John

  3. Everyone knows I love Rita. She was fabulous in the episode when she was comforting Audrey. It was Rita at her best! And it's great that she gets some more screen time. I wonder how will 2013 fare for her and Dennis?

Um, as for characters I loathe? There are a few I'd axe but the one I dislike at the moment is Karl. He's just a lazy lowlife who's not realised his mistakes. There's something about Tracy I like - I'm sorry if I offend!

How can you lambast Countryfile Graeme?! It's a ratings winner! Shame on you! Only teasing! But to be fair, Countryfile is a brilliant programme compared to the farming programme we get here in Wales on S4C!

  4. I like Lloyd but not Mandy - they really shouldn't be together! John

  5. Mmmmm - this might take some thought with such a brill cast. Villain - well that's a no-brainer - Kirsty definitely! How long do we have to wait for her t'get her come-uppance on t'cobbles?! We know full well she will eventually and I for one can't wait! Hero(ine) - that's not as easy. Maybe Gail for putting up with such a lot lately, and being reeled in hook, line and sinker, even thought she's annoying? Maybe Deirdre - hasn't had a strong story line of late, but her one-liners and humour stand out. I presume she gets that from Blanche, bless her. Plus she does have to put up with Ken. But I think I'll vote for Tyrone just for carrying on his fight for Roooo-beh! :) Enjoy Countryfile!

  6. I'm going to really miss Lewis. He's been my favourite to watch recently. Apart from the snogging scenes.

Nick is a new favourite too. He's previously been Mr Nice and pretty boring, but he flipped at peter when he returned, and is now showing a spineless streak over the pregnancy. We are seeing a new side to him.

My least favourite is Jenna, I'm sad to say.
Is was stupid how they made her loose her career. She'll be in the knicker factory in no time. An she's always pulling that mopey face. And I can't believe her relationship with Sophie. It just isn't working for me.

  7. I stand corrected - you are quite right John, it was Sid James who said that!! I just always see it as more of a Kenneth thing to say! Thanks for putting me right!!

And Llifon, I do apologise (!) Maybe I need to compare CF with a Welsh offering. It's just all too wholesome for me, and my mother always says I look like the ginger farmer. Grrr!

  8. Ah it's ok Graeme! I don't watch it really but what I've seen of it it is of a better quality than the Welsh equivalent. Ah, I have an idea now of how you look! haha

You have a great ability to have great response to every blog post you do! Keep up the good work! :)

  9. Tricky to choose just one of each. I'll opt for Fiz at the moment as least being liked. Not that I dislike the character usually but realistically I wish she would just use her nod and realise that she isn't helping Tyrones case. If they are so much in love they managed to leave it this long, why not a bit longer? I'm going to opt for Hayley as my fave. So glad she's back but keep looking at her wondering what the future holds for this loved character. - Micky

  10. Recently, Lloyd has been a bit of a hero. I don't normally like him but he has been very accepting of Jenna whilst Julie (who is actually my favorite character) has been a bit of a villain siding with Kirsty against poor Tyronne.

  11. Love..Audrey
Hate..Tracy..she cannot be redeemed..time to dim the lights on this character. Continually shoving her into relationships so she can smirk her way from episode to episode has been done so many times I've lost count.

  12. Sorry to be so pedantic Graeme = it was Sid who said that, but it sounds too camp for him and more Kenneth. That's not to say that you're camp lol = John

  13. Love Steve best - always will. Even though he hasn't had much of a storyline lately. Kirsty is truly the most vile, but I have to say, I am NOT a fan of Jenna. And like Pickledjo said, that mopey face is always present, no matter who she is talking to. I record Corrie and mostly forward through anything with her and Sophie in it, cause I'm just not interested. There is no chemistry between those two characters and it doesn't seem very believable.

  14. I like Kylie. She is layered and complex. Even when she misbehaves I understand it. The most hated villain is Eva. I find her the opposite of Kylie, very one-dimensional.

  15. I love Rita, but she is not around so much these days. Audrey is great too, but I am going to say Kylie - maybe the writers won't ruin her with more stupid storylines.

Character I hate is easy: Tracy.

  16. Much to my surprise I like Kylie lately, but I can't wait for Sylvia to return to the street! Sylvia is one of my all time favourites. St Ella is a waste of the Rover's back room for me. I can't stand her at all.

  17. My most liked character is Kylie (Entire Platt family really), liked her from the beginning when everybody was bagging her, now it looks like everyone is jumping on her bandwagon...

My most hated character is definitely Julie. Ugh.

  18. Like=Steve
Loathe=Sean (as in "walk out of the room and do something else when he's on"-type of loathe)

  19. I wonder when Sean would make an appearance!! I had noticed Steve hadnt had much of a look-in lately - hope we see more of him soon!

  20. I'm also surprised nobody has mentioned Michelle yet...

  21. Michelle...on the fence about her..love Eileen but NOT with Paul...love Kylie and David but NOT together. I guess I have relationship issues...ha!

I love Gail..she is such her own worst enemy! Boy did she get it good this week..it was great!

Hate..nobody really...most of the characters are very believable in their roles...wait...there is one that I feel has been on way too long and I doubt she'd be missed...hint..her initials are Tracy Barlow!

I'm definitely torn between Lloyd and Kylie as current favs. Lloyd has always been the reliable Street hero; the man most would want as a friend. However, I'm loving the development of Kylie's character and hope it continues!

My least fav character right now is Julie. Sure, she's a naive villian but still she's become such a nasty piece of work. She's sinking to the levels of Norris and Mary in her nastiness. That makes for a very dull character.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Can't stand Rob...he is close to edging out St Ella as most annoying character for me...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Eileen has been my fave for years, although I don't like how she's turned against Tyrone.

I hate Tracy. I am so tiring of that smug smirk. And she's not even an EFFECTIVE villain! Any baddie knows that you have to charm people to get your way, not infuriate and insult them. It's just painful to watch her.

  25. I love the way Audrey handled herself throughout this whole ordeal. I love that she is comforted by the fact that Lewis did love her but Gail pushed him back to his true self. I love that she was not foolish enough to let Gail have the money back! lol
I would miss Tracy Barlow! There I have said it. I love the character..even when I am not liking her very much...
I feel so bad when I think of Kate Ford poking in and reading such hurtful comments. I think she plays her part in making the place interesing. I am sure I am not the only one who thinks so. :-)

  26. Favorite: Steve McDonald.
Most hated: A tie between Tracy Barlow and Norris Cole.

  27. One of my heroes has already been mentioned as a villain a couple of times - Julie! I love this character and although she is behaving badly at the moment, this is born out of blind trust, naivety and loyalty - there is no malice whatsoever. She just wants to mother and protect and see justice prevail, and you just know that when the truth comes out she is going to be absolutely devastated by the mistake she has made. No, I love Julie - positive, quirky, upbeat, loyal and fun!
Other heroes are Lloyd, Kylie, Audrey, Rita and Emily.

Villains - love and hate Eva in equal measure. Hate Rob, hate St. Ella, loved Lewis as a villain - his exit was highly enjoyable and I bet he had a good time filming it too!

  28. Audrey is my favourite, wonderful actress and more so in the most recent episodes. Close second favourite is Lewis - great acting, storyline and exit - hope he returns! As much as I dislike Tracy, Rob now has her beat by a mile....his smirk is even more annoying!
