This lovely photo of Shobna Gulati and Natalie Gumede, who play Sunita Alahan and Kirsty Soames in Coronation Street, was posted to twitter today by the official Coronation Street website at @itvcorrie.
Shobna and Natalie, as Sunita and Kirsty ,have now filmed their final scenes and left the cobbles - for good? Who knows? Well, if tabloid rumours are true, Sunita will snuff it in the Rovers Return fire which takes place next month.
But as for crazy Kirsty, well, I'd love to see her back. Just when Tyrone and Fiz and the kids are settling down to watch telly on a cosy, cold winter's night, their Christmas lights flickering above the fireplace, a glass of sherry in their hands, there'll be a sound at the back door, a shadowy figure, and it'll be Kirsty coming back to cause more trouble. Yes, I'd love to see her back.
Natalie Gumede has been one of the best actresses Corrie's ever had - in this fan's opinion. And Kirsty Soames will be remembered for being one of the nastiest villains ever - and so brilliant to watch.
It's going to be interesting to see where the careers of both actresses will take them next. As soon as we hear news of either of them, we'll be blogging it, of course.

ReplyDeleteNatalie has been terrific and she deserves to go far :) I would love to see her back in Corrie one day.
I hope Shobna does well too - I just wish Corrie had found better things to do with her once lovely character.
Agree Flaming N, would love to see Natalie Gumede back haunting Fiz and Tyrone in the future! Brilliant actress and a joy to watch.
ReplyDeletePouting mouth, bulging eyes do not make for brilliant acting in my books... thought the actress playing Kirsty was OK... but not great. She didn't convince me of a conflicted person who was weak inside but angry that she couldn't control her fear, weakness and instead lashed out.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Anon19.40. The panting leading up to her outburst was almost comic-a la Maggie Blackmoor, the David Williams character in Little Britain who always panted before throwing up.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but I can't agree with Janice and anon. Natalie Gumede is a fabulous actor who portrayed Kirsty extremely well. I actually felt sorry for her at points. I would also love to see her return in the future. You had better watch out Tyrone and Fiz!
ReplyDeleteI miss young fun Sunita, Shelly's best friend, the sweet shop girl who for reasons unknown pined over Dev. Returning in the throws of middle aged responsibity and then acting like a tart, there's been no love since the day she returned. Kinda wish she had stayed away and remained a happy memory.
ReplyDeleteTime and time again, Kirsty managed to reel me in and then scare my pants off, and in my book, that's good acting by Natalie Gumede. Her story was so compelling until it was watered down with an insipid romance. It would be interesting to see a well developed return for Kirsty after a stint in jail or a mental ward. I hope they leave that door open.
I don't want to see Kirsty back. There's nothing more for her, it would be incredibly forced.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anon l9, Janice and Anon 22. Will be very glad to see the back of a nasty piece of work who made Tyrone and Ruby's life miserable. Good ridance!
ReplyDeleteI hope Kirsty will be gone for good. I didn't enjoy the character from the first moment I saw her. I felt that her twisted personality was too "heavy" for Corrie.
ReplyDeleteAgree with poster above that Sunita should never have been brought back. She was ruined and if she just disappeared without an "explosive" exit nobody would really notice. Frosty always says that when characters leave that should be it, not hoiking them back again which is aways a bad idea and they never seem to refit in.
ReplyDeleteKirsty come back?? Not on your nelly! We have enough of that bad penny turning up every five minutes with Tracyluv.
