There's a Coronation Street spoiler in this week's Daily Star that says there's going to be a twist in the Corrie surrogacy storyline.
Apparently, Owen will turn nasty and threaten Tina when she tries to back out of the baby making deal. When Tina changes her mind about having the baby for Izzy and Gary, Owen threatens to hurt Tommy if Tina doesn’t keep to the deal.
The Star says Owen
leaves Tina so scared she caves in. And Tommy, who has no idea
about Owen’s threats, is thrilled Tina has promised to not go through
with the pregnancy and turns to Rita for help.
Rita coughs up the cash and tells him: “It’s ridiculous.
She’s so young – you both are. You don’t want to be messing up your
life. You look after that little girl, make her happy and that will be the best investment I’ve ever made.”
But he is devastated when he finds Tina celebrating with Izzy and Owen.
Oh dear. Looks like we'll be in for this for the next few months. Anyone still awake?

Well Tina shouldnt have taken Owen's money if she didnt want to go through with it, more to add to ther spiralling debt. She may be pretty and "sexy" but she really is the thickest thickie in thickdom. More of the "I'll pay yer back" mantra.
ReplyDeleteSo the nasty Owen who first arrived on the street is making a comeback? *sigh*

I really don't like what TPTB are doing to Tina. Michelle Keegan is lovely girl with a beautiful smile that lights up her face, but we never get to see it in Corrie, just a snarling, skriking mardy miss.
ReplyDeletePlease give Tina something to smile about!
To misquote Morrissey, I am bored before it even begins.
ReplyDeleteWhy did Owen, Gary and Izzy not arrange for a surrogate through a clinic? Even if one or two temporary characters had to be introduced into the programme as a result, I am sure the story would be more interesting, relevant, realistic and poignant. It would also reflect the processes many young couples have to go through who embark on surrogacy and are in a similar situation to Izzy and Gary.
ReplyDeleteThe story of Izzy and Gary's quest to start a family had plenty of potential at the outset but by adding unnecessary complications to the story and involving Tina, $$$ and now blackmail on Owen's behalf, it has been sensationalised and badly handled. I sure hope these latest developments in the story don't ruin Izzy and Gary's characters even more, or even worse, mark the end of what is actually a sweet couple. Thankfully Mikey and Cherylee's strong performances have prevented me from switching off this story completely.
Still waiting for an answer as to why the wonderful Anna doesn't step forward to be the surrogate if she wants a grandbaby so badly. This storyline has spiraled into madness and should be cut..quickly.I guess nobody bought Owen as a nice guy so the writers are doing a 180 with this character and he'll be back to his snarling self.
ReplyDeleteThe Alzheimer's issue was beautifully portrayed in the Lesley character but the story was eventually ruined by a ridiculous script. Seem to be going the same way here.
ReplyDeleteFaye will kill Owen ... watch and see.
ReplyDeleteHumpty Dumpty, I completely agree with you. I was pretty impressed with that story, too, but was disappointed with how it ended. And you're right - this current storyline seems to have gone down the same unfortunate road.
ReplyDeleteI am sure Gary and Izzy's current story could have rested solely on their shoulders, along with one or two supporting characters', without these far-fetched, ridiculous and unrealistic twists involving too many characters. These two actors would have done a stirling job even if the story had not been the focal point of the programme, as it has been for the past couple of months. This was proven last year when Gary was suffering from PTSD. It's a real shame because as far as I know, Corrie has not dealt with surrogacy before and it could have set a precedent with this story and characters. I can't help but think it's a wasted opportunity.
You've got to be kidding me. They want to draw this damn storyline out furthur? It is literally getting on my nerves. Let these storylines die. Have Tina give birth to the damn baby and have them pay off their debts, this has been going on since May! And please find some new storylines, cause we are sick and tired of the current ones.
ReplyDeleteHave one of the characters develop cancer and how the street reacts to it as a whole. Surely anything beat Tina and Tommy gloomy hour, Izzy contradiction and Sunita and Karl having some whoopey.
Where's Ken and Roy when you need them?
How ridiculous that Tina would succumb to Owen's threats....though I guess no one on the street would believe her if she told them Owen was threatening to harm Tommy (after the Kirsty shove, etc)....hmmm, if they have spare cash for cans of beer, then buy a small recorder and record his threats. Better yet, tell Izzy and Gary.
ReplyDeleteIt just goes to show how utterly selfish this desire to procreate really is. Gary and Izzy are wiling to trample over umpteen lives to get what they want. If they really want to take care another life, then spend a few volunteering, caring for children dying from AIDS in Africa.
ReplyDeleteI think Tina and Tommy should pack their belongings into duffle bags and find themselves a kinder, gentler soap.
ReplyDeleteShocking, Owen threatening someone into doing what he wants? Tina should tell him he can kill Tommy, then all her debt problems will be solved, particularly if she threatens to tell the police and other authorities that he paid her a bibe to be his daughter's surrogate. Even if she has to borrow the dosh from Rita to pay Owen back, it's a small price to pay to make all this trash go away.
ReplyDeleteThis makes NO sense. Tina was so adamant about doing it, nothing would change her mind not even Tommy threatening to leave! Now all of a sudden she does a complete turnaround and won't do it? What is the reason for all this twisting and nonsensical changing?? It's completely unbelievable on so many levels.
