Mikey North reveals his hidden talent

There are few Coronation Street actors who have captured my imagination as much as Mikey North, who plays Gary Windass, has.  In my opinion, Mikey is a top actor playing a fantastic character and is one of Corrie's treasures.  Gary's relationship with Izzy, played by Cherylee Houston, is one of the things I'm enjoying most about Corrie right now.

In this week's fab Inside Soap magazine there's an interview with Mikey North in which he reveals that his favourite place to film on the Corrie set is the Windass living room. He says that Steve Huison, who played Eddie Windass, left a dodgy weird clown as a prop in that room.  "He loved clowns, did Steve," says Mikey.  I think I'll have to keep an eye out for that one next time they're showing a scene in the Windass house!

Mikey says he loves working with Debbie Rush, who plays Gary's mum Anna Windass; that he keeps in touch with the mentor from the Royal British Legion who worked with him during filming of Gary's Army Diaries; and that if he hadn't been in Corrie he'd be studying to be a lawyer.

Asked what he thinks Corrie fans would be surprised to learn about him, he says "I suppose cricket would be my hidden talent.  I played for Yorkshire when I was 15 and to quite a high level as well."

  1. Couldn't agree more! Mikey North is always impressive, and when given the scope, his acting is just amazing! My only gripe is that he is left on the sidelines too often, while characters with little to offer are given storyline after storyline. I hope he sticks around, and that the powers that be realise what a gem they have, and let him shine.

  2. Thank you so much for this post. Gary and Izzy are my two favourite characters and both are played by very talented actors. I think Mikey is one of the stand out actors on Corrie and this is evident with his current storyline and particularly so when he was suffering from his post traumatic stress. He has certainly come a long way since his bad boy days, with some guidance from the lovely Izzy and Anna of course!

Can't wait to see what's in store for the Windass/Armstrong family in the future.

  3. I remember how shocked I was to hear that Mikey North had his jaw broken by some jerk while out and about around the time he first joined the Street. Obiviously I don't know the man but nothing he's said or done publicly has left me with the impression that he is agressive or would instigate a fight. Crazy people out there.

  4. Amazing actor. He is right into character...not just delivering lines.

  6. I really feel I missed out with both the Army Diaries and the Barlows in Bed. They didn't have subtitles (which I need) and sound like they were little gems.

I didn't think much of Mikey North when he first arrived but he didn't have much of a script at first. Gary and Izzy have a great storyline now and they are both terrific actors.
