Top 60 Corrie Characters - No. 12

12. Fred Elliott 1994-2006 (105 votes)

I did think of repeating every sentence in this paragraph, as what Frederick Handel Elliott would’ve done. But I won’t, I say, I won’t. Known for his booming voice and for his role as the local butcher, Fred was introduced as a friend of Alf Roberts who had a soft spot for Alf’s wife Audrey. As well as running a butcher’s, he was the Rovers landlord for six years until he retired and sold it to Steve McDonald. Fond of a scotch and threat, Fred is also remembered for being a serial proposer and over the years he proposed to Rita Sullivan, Doreen Heavey, Audrey Roberts and Penny King. He also became engaged to con woman Stacy Hilton (who was impersonating a mail order Thai bride called Orchid Pattaya). He did manage to get two women down the aisle during his Street tenure. He’d lost first wife Sybil in 1975 and he wooed and married Maureen Holdsworth in 1997 but she ran off with Bill Webster after a week! He married third wife Evelyn Sykes in 2001 but she turned out be a bigamist. He was about to marry his fourth wife Bev Unwin in 2006 but he collapsed of a heart attack on his wedding day at old flame Audrey’s house. In 1999, Fred was revealed to be the father of ‘nephew’ Ashley Peacock.

Should booming butcher Fred be at 12? Should he be in the top 10? Were you a fan? Leave a comment!

Check out who's at 13.

Why are people pissing and moaning about the results? It was VOTED ON; it's not as if one of our blog editors took it upon him- or herself to arbitrate who ranked where. If you were so invested in it then you should have made sure you voted.
