If this tabloid rumour is true today then this fan will be very happy indeed. But it's in The Sun so take it with a pinch of salt until it's confirmed or denied by ITV.
And so, the Sun says today that fab actress Sue Johnston will be joining Coronation Street as Stella's mother!
The Sun says that Sue, 68 — long-suffering wife of Jim Royle in the BBC comedy starring Ricky Tomlinson, or as we know her better in our house, Sheila Grant from Brookside — was last night said to be "keen" to sign up.
A Corrie insider said: "Everyone is thrilled. She's a brilliant actress. We can't wait to have a member of the Royle Family walking down those famous cobbles and enjoying a drink in the Rovers."
The move would mark a return to the ITV1 show after telly veteran Sue had a cameo role for a handful of episodes playing bookie Sammy Chadwick's wife in the early 1980s.

Wonderful though Sue is, she can only join Corrie if she's playing Sheila Grant Hyphen Corkhill.
ReplyDeleteI think it's been long enough that I can accept Sue as somebody other than Sheila, it's just a shame that it could be as Stella's mam.
ReplyDeleteShe could bring a bit of life back into the Rovers, in fact, I'd love Sue as the landlady!
ReplyDeleteAgree with Sunny Jim. Sue would be a great addition to Coronation Street but gives Stella more kudos and storyline, which isn't ideal. Also, with Jane Danson playing her daughter and Sue Johnston playing her monther. Michelle Collins as Stella is going to have to up her acting game. Those two will act her off the screen and show her up to be the bad ham in an otherwise very nice sandwich.
ReplyDeleteMore well knowns joining as more family members turning up. I hear that Catherine Tate is to come in as Owen's ex wife as well.
ReplyDeleteShe even has the same look as Stella and Leanne. Good casting, I say.
