Coronation Street double episode review, Friday March 2

The rose-tinted scales finally fell from Sally's eyes about Frank after his spiteful mother Anne told her that she was "stupid and deluded" to think he cared for her and that that it wouldn't be Sally whom Frank was whisking off for a romantic weekend in Paris.

After Sally was snubbed once again by Frank for a night in with what he called, with a thinly disguised sneer of distaste, her "exquisite cooking" (he has a point, Sally's frozen chicken kiev balls and boil in the bag pork aren't exactly Nigella), she turned up on his doorstep that evening, only to find Jenny cosily ensconced on his sofa.

Sally threatened to reveal the truth about the job losses at the factory, only for Frank, exuding quiet but chilling menace, to warn her that "the last woman to cross me, lived to regret it" and she realised that Frank had indeed raped Carla.
Carla discovered that Peter was back on the booze after smelling his breath after kissing him. She decided to confide in Ken, who told her that she had to put Peter and Simon first, which made up her mind to sell her share of the Coronation Street factory to Frank and take up the secretly double-crossing Sally's offer.

Lewis's oleaginous charm came in useful at the Bistro when he smoothly stepped in as impromptu waiter to offer his advice on wine to the Weatherfield Gazette's grumpy food critic, who curiously appeared to have been parachuted in from the 1970s with his sideburns, pink shirt, brown suit and kipper tie. Nick was so impressed he offered Lewis a (trial) job as a meeter and greeter. Nick had better keep the till under lock and key!

I am ever so 'umble Mr Nick Sir, - can Castrol man Lewis become any more creepy and slithery, how much longer before he gets the key to Audrey's bedroom? What a load of old rubbish.

  2. I'm finding the Eileen menage-a-trois deeply disturbing. Is the message here that it's OK to carry on in front of a spouse if they don't know what's going on? There are other afflictions which destroy a relationship: strokes, mental health problems etc. The writers wouldn't dream of using the same plot. Get Paul and Lesley out of that house. It's simply not dignified.

Gail - give her a real story. She's becoming embarrassing.

The scene where Carla realised Peter had been drinking was powerful. For the first time, I felt sympathy, especially as we can see Peter's collapse is imminent.

  3. Good on Sally..finally getting hers. Peter into the booze...again...yawn...more heavy breathing and self pity.
Eileen and Paul creep me out.
Lewis...what's the point of this character..again?
Also...the full face on camera work between Peter and Ken was down right scary...the camera was almost up Ken's right nostril!!!

  4. The whole storyline of Eileen even considering taking time off work to look after Lesley who she has known for all of 5 min is mind-boggling and the flirtatious snuggle with innuendo between Paul and Eileen within four feet of his wife - tacky, tasteless, and rather disgusting.

  5. I agree with Humpty Dumpty...
The scene where Carla realised Peter had been drinking was very powerful. I have to say, the actors who play Carla and Peter, work brilliantly together.

Thank God Sally can finally see what Frank really is. I'm looking forward to seeing her face Carla.

  6. I think you mean double-crossing Jenny...not Sally

  7. I'm really glad Sally is gonna get her come-uppance! She's always deluded herself into thinking she's better than anyone else on the street.

I do not get how Carla, the supposed alcoholic that Peter supported, seems to be able to drink whenever she wants. Why in hell is she so shocked that Peter is drinking? Pot? Kettle? She's a lush.

I think Lewis was great in the Bistro! They need some class in there - and sour-face Gail should be sent home presto pronto! God, her constant nag-nag-nag is so friggin' annoying. I wish the writers would give her a life, so she'd stay out of Nick's and Audrey's and David's.

  8. I agree with ChiaGwen - that scene in the kitchen with Paul and Eileen was contemptible. They treat Lesley like she doesn't exist.
Jason is right to be disgusted with the whole thing.

  9. Anyone feel sorry for Sally when she found miss Zingy colors in Frank's house - me neither!

I do hope though that it isn't Frank's mother who is the murderer. I think that she's a terrific character and a wonderful actress and could be a credit to the street for years to come. It would be great to see her stay on. I know she's a nasy piece of goods but could give other spiteful madam's like Tracy a run for her money in the nasty stakes. I think she could become a Corrie great.

  10. I totally agree, Beth. With Frank dead, his 49% would presumably be inherited by Ann; now if she's realised the truth about her son, she'd have to revise her attitude & opinion of Carla. I'd like to see a relationship develop between the two of them, growing out of working together. It would take at least a year to develop it properly, but I could foresee a mother/daughter dynamic coming out of it. Carla, after all, barely had a relationship with her own mother. I think it has a lot of potential.
