Who wants Janice Battersby back to sort out Stella?

"Thanks, mum" said Leanne last night on Coronation Street to St. Ella of the Rovers. "She's not yer mum!" we shouted at the telly, "What about Janice?"

Now, yes, we know that Stella Price was brought into Corrie as Leanne's biological mother, but how quickly Leanne's 'proper' mum has been forgotten.

We're talking about Janice Battersby, the woman who brought up Leanne, the woman who lived through Leanne's Barbie prostitute years. The woman who lived with and loved, heaven help her, Leanne's dad, Les. The woman who nursed Leanne, looked after her, brought her up and was to all intents and purposes, her real and proper mum.  How quickly she's been forgotten.

This fan thinks it's time Janice Battersby returned to sort out Stella, put her right about a few things and remind Leanne of where her loyalties should lie. And I'm not the only fan who thinks so, Chelle Gower on twitter @chellecuffers suggested it too.

What do you think about having Janice back to take up Stella's invitation to "Come through to the back" and beat Stella black and blue sort Stella out?

Tis not the first time Leanne has addressed St Ella as Mum. Yep Janis has been all but forgotton but its soapland. Why would Janis sort her out at all? Surely they would join forces to sort out Cruella.

  2. Janice needs to come back and sort both ladies; she could also help Leanne with Simon (whom Leanne has no legal right to but will likely end up with).

  3. I don't accept that someone would call their mum 'Mum' after 30 odd years' absence, anyway. I wasn't sorry to see Janice go - she'd run her course. I'd love to see Toyah back, though, sorting out just about everyone who's upset her sister.

  4. Stella needs taking down a peg or two, and I couldn't think of anyone more perfect for the job than good old Janice.

  5. Love the St. Ella moniker! We are four months behind in Canada and I am finding St. Ella very intrusive. She butts into every storyline and conversation. Why yes Carla I was raped too. I keep expecting her to draw Tracey aside and confide, why yes, I too murdered my live-in and miscarried twins. Then she'd be off to Eileen to share secrets: Karl has a wife with Alzheimer's. Next stop Sally: I too battled breast cancer and have an off-screen daughter who's a lesbian. Then one day over a glass of sherry she will commiserate with Emily: my first husband was killed in a botched holdup. Whatever your pain, St. Ella has felt it first. She is firs on the scene to offer unsolicited advice, it is becoming tiresome.

  6. Corrierules - she doesn't improve. Keep score of how many people she invites to "come through to the back lovey and tell me all about it".

  8. maybe if they keep the character and change stella's head - then it might work. but cindystella and her fake accent is ridiculous!

  9. Have Toyah AND Janice come back to sort all of them out.

  10. Dear Flaming Nora: Great idea about keeping score. If I go ahead, I won't make it a drinking game. Might end up like Peter and Carla!

  11. It's just her personality. She likes to listen. And there is a person or two in my life who has been through everything. They are very nice people who want to help. They always told me to talk about it. So, that's why I think Stella is a nice person. She is trying to make up for all the mistakes she did in the past by listening and helping people.

  13. I see they have more gritty storylines for St Stella. My fast forward button will be in overdrive. I could have grown to cope with the dodgy accent if the character had developed into a warm, funny personality with at least some human failings. Bland character, one facial expression (raised eyebrows)and wooden movement. Give the woman some colour- sreaky pink hair, a slash of red lipstick, ludicrous statement jewelry- anything to numb the experience of watching the acting..and yes, bring back rentagob Battersby (Janice).

  14. But then Leanne never called her Mum, she always called her Janice. Janice would probably take more offence at Carla and Peter than Stella, though and she'd make their ears bleed screaming at them.

  15. Haha corrieules, that made me laugh so much. It would be great for Janice and Toyah to return for a week or so just to visit Leanne (and maybe put Stella in her place)
