When Jamie Oliver did that School Dinners programme, my sister-in-law (you know, the one who went to school with Stephen Houghton who played Sally's boyfriend Jeff) wasn't right pleased. She works as a supervisor on the school meals and she said that while having healthy food in the school canteen was laudable to adults and might look good on paper, in reality it meant that most of the kids turned their noses up at it and went hungry rather than eat food they didn't know.
There were also reports in the press at the time that mums were bringing in chips and fatty food to feed their kids through the school gates at lunchtime. And the same thing's going to happen in Corrie too.
According to The Sun, Kylie is so fed up with Bessie Street headmaster Brian Packham banging on about healthy eating that she brings in fatty foods for the schoolkids. Spotting one of his students tucking into a chip butty, Brian marches over to Kylie and tries to take away her bag of food. A tussle ensues and Brian is left sprawling on the ground covered in chips and mushy peas. Mr Chips?
Cool sounds like a good laugh. Hope David is with her!
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling the writers won't let this be a crisps win the day story. I think some humour will help. Good to focus on the issue, for sure! At least it gets folk talking about it.
ReplyDeleteDont forget half the world is starving when you are throwing food about "for a laff".
ReplyDeleteSo long as it's been done for entertainment and not for raising stupid bloody issues that everyone is well aware of already, then I'm happy. More importantly, Corrie is a better programme when the writers are influenced by real world events (cf Norris in the Commonwealth Games) rather than coming up with silly pschyo killer storylines.
ReplyDeleteA food fight. Really. Hope Simon gets a pie in the face...can't stomach that little creep.
