Coronation Street double episode review, Monday February 27

Simon was forced to admit to his dad Peter and Leanne - who had previously attacked Carla in front of everyone at the factory - that he had lied to them about Carla being drunk and hurting him, in order to get his beloved "mum" Leanne to stay. As ever, an amazing, convincing performance from young Alex Bain as Simon, who is just ten years old, after several award-winning years in Coronation Street.
Some good comedy ensued as the wonderful Beth, encouraged by scheming Tracy - "he needs a strong woman, get him round  to the flat and seduce him"  - tried and failed to have her wicked way with a horrified Steve, while she was dolled up in mutton-dressed wig and low cut silver mini dress. Steve had to call for help from Beth's son from hell Craig (who had been told to retire to his room by the hopeful Beth) to rescue him from her clutches. Beth's pithy verdict to herself on her lack of amorous success:"Well, what a waste of a bath!"
Evil Frank was distancing himself further from clinging Sally and her offers of yet more revolting home cooking. "I'll do my carrot and swede mash!". He lied to her about plans to close down production at the factory and even managed to sweet talk his way out of  her suspicions when she read an incriminating email about the planned factory closure and job losses. Wait till she finds she's not the only woman in his life...
Possibly reformed conman Lewis, thinking he may be about to do some time in clink after admitting his previous Weatherfield  fraud to the police,  went for a solo last supper at the Bistro. "I thought I'd treat myself before going to get my just desserts".
But he was treated with suspicion by Nick and Gail and even forced to offer to pay for the meal  in advance. They then thought he'd done a runner without paying at the end of the meal but he returned to order a large brandy, leaving Nick and Eva somewhat shame-faced. Nigel Havers expertly oozes charm and apparent sincerity - but is it all for real or yet another con act by former gigolo Lewis?

  1. And ..... we're back to Gail being a sour-faced cow. *sigh* Boring.

  2. Wasn't it Nick and the "I've just sucked on a lemon" faced Gail, not Eva. And even then Nick was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt rather than Gail who was all ready to string him up by his whatsies...lol

  3. Sally just cracks me up. It was all doe eyes at first and now she's getting down to the business of domesticating the affair with home defrosting. I wonder if she's going to pull out a packet of fish fingers!!!

  4. I must say that my favourite scenes of the episodes were with Beth. She is a welcome breath of fresh air -- pairing her with Tracy even makes Tracy tolerable! On the other hand I'm finding the Carla/Peter/Leanne story tiresome. I love watching Jane Danson but the storyline isn't doing it for me.

I have to agree that Beth is a great character with great lines, not sure about laughing at the fat ginger kid though. Can Long Nosed Lewis get any more slithery and who really cares if he is genuine or not, I find him and his story totally boring and how come he can afford slap up meals at the bistro followed by double brandies when he is supposed to be skint and living in a dive? Hm.

  6. Even though Anne showed her more nasty side in Monday's episode and her growing anger with horrible Frank, that moment in the car when Frank said to Jenny that Sally will be in for a big surprise when it is Frank and Jenny and not Frank and Sally riding off into the sunset....that self-satisfied smile on Jenny's face has made me kind of re-evaluate whether she is Frank's killer and not Anne.....oh, I'm torn!
