Tony Blackburn wants to be on Corrie - after his death

DJ Tony Blackburn said on Daybreak yesterday that he wants his body stuffed and put on show in Coronation Street when he dies.

The Daily Star reports that Tony amazed fans by announcing the bizarre wish to be mummified and placed in The Rovers Return.

Tony said: “I’ve only got one ambition in life. When I die I want to be stuffed and end up in the Rovers Return. That would be my idea of fun. I would like to appear on Coronation Street just sitting there having a beer. I’ve hinted at this for 20 years and never been taken up on it.”

The Star says that Corrie bosses yesterday held off saying whether they would be able to grant Tony’s wish for a cameo, alive or dead. A show spokesman said: “We once had a fan from Canada whose last wish was for their ashes to be scattered on the street, so we let their family do that. This is the first time we’ve ever had a request to put a stuffed body on show.I couldn’t say whether we would give him a cameo at this stage but it’s always great to know we have celebrity fans.  He’s welcome to come down to the set and meet people and have a walk around.”

Tony revealed he was a life-long Coronation Street fan and has never missed a single episode since it started. “When I come back from holiday, I put by a day so I can watch the whole lot that I missed. I love it.”  Good on yer, Tony!
