The new Rovers landlady?

As you've read here today, it seems Steve may put the Rovers up for sale. That means, if it happens, we could have a new landlady behind the bar. It's possible that it could be Stella and Karl that buy the pub or Steve might give up on the idea after all. I hope so, because I rather like Steve owning the place. If he sold it, there would just be Streetcars left and he'd be holed up in the pokey flat over it, lonely and forlorn whereas in the pub there's lots of interaction.

Having said that,  don't you think Sally Webster would be a great choice as landlady and a wonderful shout out to the legendary Annie Walker?

Ok, Sally's not Annie Walker yet but if you ask me, she's well on her way. She's blonde. She's got the disapproving crossed arm stance. She has the snobbery and social climbing down pat. She has the shocked look when things go awry. She's got half the money that Kevin gave her from his lottery win from her divorce settlement. If she and Kevin hadn't split up, he'd be a great landlord though he's more Jack Duckworth than the rock solid, even-tempered  Jack Walker.

It might have been more likely if they had never divorced. Kevin would put in a bid for the pub regardless of Sally's objections and then she'd have had to make the best of it, similar to Annie Walker who had aspirations of a country inn in Cheshire rather than a backstreet pub.

It probably won't happen. But I could picture it so clearly in my mind!

  1. Much rather Sally than Stella!
Many feel Sally has earned the right to be an independent female entrepreneur through her long history of character development.

Stella's only been in the pub the proverbial five minutes, and hasn't earned the right to be the centre of the Street, although the writers would have us believe she's indispensable to all.

  2. I do hope Frank's mum buys it. Gwen Taylor is such a great comic actress that she could easily be another Annie Walker in the making. And she is meant to be a shewd business woman, and I would imagine isn't exactly hard up.

  3. God, I'm sorry but if Sally becomes the landlandy I'll be using the fast forward button!!

Earned the right through her long history of character development!!......more like her long history of thinking she's better than everyone else and using every opportunity to try and rub everyone's nose in it.

Yuk...I could think of nothing worse.

She's slowly evolved into the modern day Hilda Ogden but without Hilda's occasional charm.....well there's a thought....how about making Sally the Rovers new cleaning lady...a few rollers in the front of her hair and she'd be perfect...lol.

But that's precisely a character description of Annie Walker!!!!!

  5. Yeah I know I thought that right after I posted it, but there should only be one Annie Walker.

I couldn't stomach another reign of that sort....having to constantly look at Sally's smug mug.....no thanks, I'd like her better as the cleaning lady!!

  6. Hear Hear! Kim Colby, exactly so!
Gwen Taylor would be another good choice, but Stella, no way. Never mind the FF button, it'll be the Off button if Stella is made Landlady!

  7. Sorry Kim Colby, I meant to agree with Anonymous!

  8. Sally as the Rovers landlady would mean that within a week everyone would be barred and with her nose so far up in the air she would never notice that no one was in the pub.

  9. I don't think Sally would ever consider buying the pub. I think she would think it was beneath her but i thought it was a fun image to contemplate :) There *are* similarities!

  10. I like Steve owning the pub, he just belongs there! It might be fun to see Sally "lower" herself to manage it for him though

  11. Well as Phil Collinsons friend isnt going anywhere soon, you had better get used to her and Karl buying the pub. Surmise all you like but its going to be them of course or where would they go?

  12. I think Sally would be great. After the rape storyline has finished it would be great to see his mum and Sally team up together in the rovers

  13. I reckon Steve should keep the pub, and sell the taxi business. His mother would be the best manager.

  14. Sally's holier than thou attitude would be so off-putting, the Rovers would be empty most of the time. Maybe Lloyd can win some money when he is off camera, come back, buy the pub and install Steve as landlord - more interaction between the great two in the Rovers and Streetcars. Get Eileen back on the switch and all is well on the cobbles!

  15. I'd love to see Steve and Lloyd running the Rovers together. Forget all the silly romances going on - they're the most entertaining couple on the street!

  16. I've banged on about this before but I'm rooting for an outsider, Liza Tarbuck. She's got terrific physical presence and she could belt out a song at Christmas. I've always thought she'd be great and then she tweeted she'd been approached by a soap but couldn't say any more. Please let it be Corrie. And can't you just see her with another Liverpudlian, Lloyd, either as co-licensees or lovers. Maybe Michelle Collins will choose to leave when PC goes; she must know she's not popular and she may jump before she's pushed by another producer. It would be a disaster if any of the existing characters bought the pub. I feel so strongly about Liza Tarbuck, I might start my own campaign!

  17. Tvor, you are SO good at these sorts of things! I hadn't thought of Sally in the Rovers before but yes, I can see it and I don't like it one bit - which means it'd be great!!!

  20. Roy's mother might be fun behind the bar - her sarcasm is pretty darn funny!

Sally?? Nevah!! Everyone would end up over at the Bistro.

  21. Steve can't be landlord because of his conviction (that's why Liz got the job), but I'd so rather see him and Lloyd partnered at the Rovers than in the beige cab office. Lloyd could be a perfect publican. If only there were some way to bring Eileen back into the mix; those three were stellar together.

Sally, no, don't see that. Maybe as manager at Nick's with their better heeled clientele, but not the Rovers.

  22. I like the idea of either Roy's mum or Frank's. Although if Frank's meant to be killed or imprisoned, I doubt his mum would be skulking about. While we're on it, wouldn't it be fun if Carla gave up the rag trade and bought out Dev? I'd like to see what she could do with that pokey little shop. Lloyd would also be a great landlord, he's the sympathetic type.
