The Betty Driver Story tonight on TV at 8pm

There's a repeat showing of The Betty Driver Story tonight on TV.

It'll be shown on ITV1 between tonight's two episodes of Coronation Street at 8pm. It's well worth watching if you haven't seen it before, and even if you have, it'll be worth watching again as you raise your glass to Betty Turpin / Williams - one of the best barmaids that Corrie's ever had.

  1. I watched the programme again, and was struck by what a positive, well-rounded and resilient person Betty Driver was.
She had a sad start to life, and I appreciate how she was strong enough to make the very best of it, and rise above.
She was able to laugh off the hurts of the past, and everyone in the cast seems to have loved her as much as she loved them.
    Rest in Peace Betty.

  2. When you consider how screwed up so many of these Hollywood child-actors turn out to be, it speaks volumes that this lovely lady was able to rise above the sadness of her formative years to be so full of love and good cheer for all around her. The warmth - verging on reverence - with which Helen Worth, Beverly Callard and others have spoken of her in the last few days confirms what we always thought; that the Betty of the Rovers was pretty much identical with the Betty who sung with the big bands and forged on with her life. My nana used to have the sheet music to her big songs in her piano stool ('I'll Take Romance'- lovely song) It does feel, weirdly, like we've all lost a beloved great aunt. We'll never forget Betty Preston/Turpin/
Williams and nor shall we ever forget Betty Driver.
