Emily on Fire

Eileen Derbyshire had a close call on set recently when she accidentally set her clothing on fire! Seems she stood too close to a tea light while filming scenes for Sophie's birthday and a shawl she was wearing caught the flames! A quick thinking crew member got to her quickly and doused the fire but her costume was ruined and Eileen was shaken up.

Eileen wasn't seriously injured and was back filming the next day. The scenes are scheduled to air around Bonfire Night, coincidentally enough! Read more about the incident here.

  1. lol she is smiling. Its time this dreadful character is axed, I mean, she never appears much. Such a waste of wage, we have already got better characters such as Tina, David, Becky, Kylie etc, without the older characters wasting screentime. They are past it, Coronation Street is aimed for younger people now.

  2. Yes - cardboard one dimensional characters like the dull and boring whiny kids of the street. It's the older characters that are carrying it - without them Corrie would be nothing but a cookie cutter copy of the crap they offer us from the US. Let's make it a rule to keep under 30s to minimum until they grow up and develop some depth.

Asinine comment? No more than yours. Life is made up of all sorts of people. That's the beauty of Corrie, it includes them all.

  3. How dare you call Emily dreadful, she is one of Corrie's stalwarts and is seriously underused. If you want young people all the time watch Hollyoaks. How many streets just have young people in then unless its student accommodation? What planet are some of these viewers on I wonder.

  4. Everyone is allowed their opinion of course. I like Emily and i like that Corrie has characters of all ages, even if they don't always have their own storylines, They're still contributing to the canvas of the show for me.

  6. I like Emily Bishop. The longer she stays the better, and glad she is alright.

  8. Lol Anonymous (1) when you mention the "better" characters of Tina, Becky, David & Kylie. Just the young characters that have brought down this wonderful programme over the past couple of years.

Long live Emily. Corrie wouldn't be the same without her. The older characters certainly bring a lot more depth to the programme.

When will the ptb will begin to realise that the screaming shouty kids on the show that have turned away millions and haven't brought in awards don't cut it and it's time to take the show back to basics? It's Weatherfield not Hollyoaks!
