Coronation Street cast join Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

Coronation Street cast members William Roache (Ken Barlow) and Michelle Collins (Stella Price) are to team up to take part in Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? soap specials.  Michelle and Williamwill feature in the first live special on ITV1 on August 20.

Real-life couple Kym Marsh (Michelle Connor) and Jamie Lomas will also appear in the pair of programmes later this month.

Now then, this fan can understand Corrie wheeling out William Roache to join the quiz show - he's the longest serving member of a serial drama in the whole world - but Michelle Collins?  Was no one else available? She's only been on the show five minutes, it's really unfair on the other members of the cast, I feel. What do you think?

  1. I think it is fine! Really, I am sure the cast doesn't mind it. There's someone who has been on the show forever and someone who hasn't. Beside, Michelle has been on EastEnders, which would give the team upper points because of the wider knowledge.

  2. I think there could be a lot of complaints over this although, I would not be bothered if she is in it or not. However, I was a huge fan of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and loved watching it constantly for years, until they changed the design of it, and have only watched it ONCE since they re-designed it. If it went back to the original setting, I would love to watch it again therefore, I will not get to watch the Corrie team.

  3. Instead of just think about Millionare, I wish something would be done to try and get more people to come onto this Coronation Streets blog website. When I go through it, I only find around 2 or 3 comments at times, and possibly, maybe up to about 25 comments at the most. Why doesn't Coronation Street voice-over at the beginning or end announce about coming onto this blog, as I only found out about it while messing around on the Internet. If I had known this was around, I would have been on this since it started. Unless it is broadcast, most people will not know anything about it.

  4. A cynic might suggest it's a way to get some more positive publicity for Collins but if she's going to use her real life voice/accent it could very much backfire when she's seen on screen in Corrie. But yes, as the first commenter said, she's also known for EE so it's kind of a double barrel team.

  5. I think Mr Surranne Jones hit the nail squarely on the head when he said Michelle brings knowledge of EastEnders to the team. It is quite a sensible decision to maximise their chances of making a lot of money for charity, but obviously it's not going to help with the perception that Corrie is ramming Michelle down our throats. Figuratively, of course.

  6. Michelle Collins is Phil Collinsons baby (so to speak). It was his idea to bring her in to the show and he is being very defensive of any criticism of her. It looks like he has handpicked Bill (for obvious reasons) and Michelle to give her a bit of positive publicity.
