Andrew Hall to leave Coronation Street

Andrew Hall, who plays Audrey's fella Marc(ia) will be leaving Coronation Street, says today's fab Inside Soap magazine.

The mag says that Audrey will be broken-hearted when her cross-dressing boyfriend departs in late August.  However, someone will find out about Marc's transvestism before he leaves... I wonder who it'll be?

  2. Thank goodness that he's going as I was never keen on seeing some bloke dressed up like that... What? well I don't know where your underwear or even your size 15 denier stockings have gone or even your handbag dear (I'm just talking to the wife but mind you folks, these size 15 tend to be less sheer but more durable than a size 10 so I might just leave them on for now)!

  3. Is Claudia coming back before he leaves?

  4. I think it'll be Kylie and Eva judging by the Summer Preview video.

A shame to hear he's leaving, was hoping he'd be sticking around with Audrey for a while. As far as I know we won't be seeing Claudia again.

  5. Thank God! I've been completely unable to engage with thish shtory because of Andrew Hall's shtrange way of shpeaking. And also, his terrible acting. I cringe every time he comesh on shcreen.

  9. I doubted if he was ever going to become a permanent character. Phil Collinson has been criticised for not having much humour in his stories but this one has been unintentionally hilaroious with Lurch in his Jimmys (Choos) clunking all over the place in his Sam Fox circa 1985 wig. Great stuff.

  10. Easily the most pathetic storyline ever to be featured in the programme.

  11. It's a shame the Marc/Marcia thing hasn't worked out better. I've loved seeing Audrey so happy - she's positively radiant at the moment and it suits her. But Andrew Hall's performance is terribly stilted and the dialogue they give him reads like an information pamphlet, which just drains all the life out of the storyline. He is just too uncomfortable in his Marcia outfits to be convincing as a transvestite - he doesn't look like he's getting any enjoyment out of the cross-dressing at all, which begs the question: what's the point? If Marcia were more convincing, more fun to hang out with, this could have been a good long-term storyline for Audrey (I mean, it's certainly different) and Marc could have settled in as a longer-term character on the street with no problems. As it is, it just feels like a Very Special Lesson being forced unconvincingly down our throats, one which won't leave much of a ripple in its wake.

  14. He was terrible in Butterflies all those years ago. The way he speaks and his acting have not improved since then.

I agree with Llywela. This could have been a brilliant storyline, if it had been less earnest and preachy and with a much better actor. The reactions of the rest of the family (and the street - what would Bill Webster think of his old flame and "Marcia") could have been very entertaining. And David and Kylie could have had some great dialogue.

As it is, it has been a disaster.

  15. I think it's Gail who finds out.

  16. the most hilarious person to find out would be a toss up between Gail and Norris, I can imagine both of their faces would be equally as shocked!

  17. Llewela, well said. I don't mind the storyline because it gives Audrey something new to do and yes it's a different story. But the actor with his deep, deep voice just looked awkward and my Godd/ess can't they find more stylish clothes and wig? Marcia has worse fashion sense than Hayley Too bad we can't stick with it long enough for Aud to do a makeover!

  18. Thank God he's leaving! Those clenched teeth will NOT be missed. Love to see Norris try to chat him/her up then discover who really is underneath that fashion disaster outfit.

  20. I think Merseytart has got it spot on. it was a mistake from beginning to end - just awful and actually very poor.

  21. So True Llywela! The Marc/Marcia storyline been a preachy, forced, lesson for sure. I can't help feel that this one has been shoved in to educate use mere viewers and taking the PC stand too far. Especially as Marc/ Marcia aren't staying long term as that would have been the true test for the story! You think that we would all be still talking about Harold/Hayley all these years later if they would have covered and finished the story in around 4 months max and then axed the character? (Granted it really doesn't help that Andrew Hall is a dire actor!!). Had this been done properly it could have been great and could have sat long term in the show. Instead I can't help but see Mr Collinson smugly tick off another 'done story' aren't we great!, before we move onto the next. That's how it feels these days. Next story please.... and off we go.... No interweaving, no build up, no long term suspense, - wham bam thank you mam..... then the character isn't renewed.

  22. PS Audrey, the night Marc told her he was a transvestite said that she wasn't narrow minded at all etc etc and made a big deal that she had a big friend in the 80's who died later of AIDS. She was devastated and took ages to get over it.... that's what she said wasn't it?? I've been watching this show for eons and I've never heard of this friend, saw Audrey's grief or a whiff of a mention before. I didn't dream this did I??!
