Dennis Tanner, Coronation Street con-man?

While most of us Coronation Street fans on here are pleased to see the return of Dennis Tanner, we have had a  moan on the blog about him being under used since he arrived.  What a waste! Anyway, I'm wondering if this is about to change and if Dennis will be exposed as being a con-man, tied in with James Cunningham's plan to fleece folk of their hard-earned cash?  This isn't a spoiler, just me wondering out loud.

Spoilers in the press suggest that Dennis will become involved in a love triangle with Rita and Sylvia both vying for his attention. So if my suspicion is true that Dennis is still a bad 'un and after Rita's money rather than her company, she could do well to stay away.  What do you think - is Dennis a con-man or not?

  1. Don't think so - I think he's genuine.

  2. Oooooh, what a nasty, suspicious mind you have, Flaming Nora!

But it would make for a great storyline!

  3. I don't think so. Not in a nasty way at least. Dennis always had a cheeky way and was always out to make a bit of cash but i don't think he's malicious. Knowing Rita has more money than Sylvia, though, may sway his affections lol

  4. I hope he isn't, I've had enough of con men on the street

  5. The thought actually crossed my mind as well, he was so evasive when Sophie asked him to speak about his homeless experiences at the auction. I do so hope not though, otherwise we just may as well re-name it Criminialisation Street.

I would hope that he wouldn't be involved in something like that. But wasn't he sent down back in the 70s for some con involving a pensioner? It was when Elsie had to go to London.

  7. If he'd been in on it, he'd surely have jumped at the opportunity to discuss his experiences. That would be his riole in any scam. I think his reluctance stems from genuine embarrassment and pride. Really hope Dennis is genuine.

  8. Might as well rename the soap into CRIMEa Street. See what I did there!! ;)

  9. I think Dennis Tanner is wasted at the moment and he was okay at first when he looked homeless, but once cleaned up, he is a complete different character. When he was in his old rags, I thought he was up to something but that idea soon went away. No, what I personally would to see is Dennis get something to act 'with a bite' so viewers attach their minds on him. Let him get up to no good or something else that is 'gripping' to watch otherwise, he is going to waste his talents on some other daft storyline. What about him and Norris have deep arguements then for some reason, they both end up in hospital . . . only to be put in a ward next to each other? well, it is something different to other soaps as most soaps tend to copy each others stories.

  11. I would have preferred it if Dennis Tanner had not been brought back into Coronation Street as I find him boring and uninteresting.

  12. I wonder if Dennis Tanner was in the homeless shelter as part of an undercover operation to flush out the scammers though I didn't see any hints as to that. I think he's a great addition and I hope he's around for a long time.
