Antony Cotton has signed a new deal to remain on Corrie.
He announced the news on Twitter, saying: “I have just signed my 9th contract with the show and I couldn't be prouder to be in the show. Thank you Coronation Street, you are amazing!”
Hmmmm, not sure what I feel about his contract renewal. Def feel that Charlie Condou's acting saves the day in most of their scenes but maybe the writers can stop making Sean into a mincing nitwit and acting like a school girl with his woe-is-me attitude.
Well it would have been a waste of time voting for him and Marcus to get wed, if he hadn't signed his contract to stay on. I am pleased that he is staying on, as I like watching him but although Marcus is okay, I found Sean ( SE- AN 2 believe), a little better with his story - lines before Marcus came on the scene. It used to be more funnier when Marcus was not around, and Sean stared and fancied many blokes who were around him. I would love to see Sean act that way again WITHOUT any stupid gay kissing. (He can still act gay without snogging)!
There have been some great actors on Corrie which to me, beats the actors from the other soaps. Maybe its because I am from the opposite side of Manchester in the North East England (although not that far away by car I suppose!). However, according to some German people a few years ago, they told me that they get Corrie and also Mr Bean ( Rowan Atkinson ) on their TV as well as certain other programmes. ------------ Rowan Atkinson the youngest of four brothers, was born in Consett in County Durham and went to Newcastle University and also Durham, and he was therefore originally classed as a Northerner. However, to add some flavour to Corrie with something comical, I think it would be great to see Mr Bean turn up in Coronation Street either walking around in his comical way, or using his mini while been involved over several episodes and acting the same original way, without him talking except for giving his name. The way I am looking at Mr Bean used in Corrie could be where Norris while searching for his rats imagines he has seen Mr Bean. 'I tell you Rita, it was the spitting image of him and I am sure it was him' cries Norris while Rita sniggers at him. This could keep happening over a few episodes while no - one believes him (a little like Mary's van), and eventually, Sean while taking his son for a walk in the 'Red Wreck', spots Mr Bean up to something comical. Sean tries to tell everyone and they too don't believe him and think he is in on it with Norris. Later on, Mary panicks and feints when she spots Mr Bean and that is where it could start getting more exciting for Corrie viewers. (I will leave the rest for the official Corrie writers ha ha)! . . . Just an idea folks! What would the Germans think of Corrie if they saw Mr Bean on it?
I felt so bad for Sean when Gary clocked him one in the Rovers...he looked so shocked but was really milking it the next day at work. I don't think the street would be the same without Sean and his acerbic wit, however, I do think it's time for him and Marcus to find their own flat. Eileen needs to be more than a landlady for whomoever needs a place to live. How many bedrooms are there in that place anyway? Getting a tad crowded hmmm???
I think Sean has run his course. He's not a bad character and certainly NOT as annoying as many make him out to be... but I'm growing a little tired of him.
I'd like to see Marcus have his own storyline away from Sean as well.
I'm afraid I'm also very bored with Sean; he's one person I'd like to see undergo a personality transplant and get himself into some sort of interesting storyline.
That picure is going straight on my dartboard! Anthony Cotton is a poor actor, simple as. He is weak and cannot carry a dramatic story. However, as a side character is he actually quite good and can be witty and waspish. He should just be kept in the background in my opinion and stop getting all these stories and screen time as he cannot pull them off. Charlie Condou knocks him into a cocked hat. The Are you Being Served acting style is very tedious and as well. Again Phil Collinsn is letting personal friends and feelings take precidence over the good management of the programme.
I really, really like Sean, he is one of my favourites, but prefer him without Marcus and Dylan but at the factory or in the Rovers with Julie instead - though I understand it's natural for the character to settle down. He most certainly has more airtime than anyone else on the show and over the past 18 months or so his character seems to have become distorted. He was the one comforting Maria after her ordeal with Frank, touching as it was it wasn't Sean as we know him, it seemed strange as he was so quiet and reserved. Since being paired with Marcus as a couple with a son he is much more OTT and camping it up more than ever and certainly not the Sean that took charge behind the bar at the Rovers the night of the crash for example. The Sean in the factory is a different Sean than the one with Dylan too... it's all very bizarre. Don't get me wrong, he's never been a shrinking violet I know, but it's almost as though he's got a different personality for each set of late, as if the producers and Anthony Cotton are not quite sure where the character is now heading with so many jobs, air time and stories on the go at once.
Beth, Sean has been written like that for some time now - either the pink and fluffy best friend or the acerbic bitch and Anthony Coton's emotional shallowness as an actor means he cannot reconcile the two sides of the personality, which a better actor could. Frosty is absolutley right - in fact I posted pretty much the same sentiments a few days ago on another thread. He lacks the ability to take centre stage. The main problem is anything that requires emotion just gets the kicked puppy pout. To be honest, it strains credibility that an intelligent, sensitive guy like Marcus would ever be involved wityh such a two-dimentional stereotype. Sean works very well as a peripheral character, a Greek-Chorus type, commenting on the action around him, but that's where he should stay. Marcus, on the other hand, should be freed to develope an independant identity.
Well, I'm happy about this! Sean adds a bright touch to scenes, even when he's being bitchy. He's good at the quick comeback. also good as a shoulder to cry on. This will give him time to get to know his son, and see his relationship with Marcus develop. I'd miss him if he left now.
I agree with Dave Anderson - I've been a big fan of Anthony's since his "Queer as Folk" days. I love him in Corrie, long may his contracts keep coming!!
I can think of far worse characters/acting skills than his: Norris Cole, Fiz Stape, Eileen Grimshaw, I could go on......
I'm sure Anthony Cotton is a nice guy, maybe likes his own publicity a wee bit too much like Kim Marsh, but really .... a new contract!
He is not a great character nor one of the better actors, but all credit to him for managing to dodge the sacking bullets and keep in favor of the powers that be - who we all know (but many won't admit to) have lost the plot.
Bring back and write more for the Corrie favorites who the majority of grass route fans want to see more of.
Do these "powers that be" bother to read this blog?

That we had finally lost the plot?.... Nice thought..

ReplyDeleteNot good news.
ReplyDeleteIf Mr Bean was brought into Corrie, I think it would boost the ratings, and be talk of the town! Go on, bring in Mr Bean!
