While I could have predicted this, I'm also very glad about it! There's a spoiler in the Mirror that says Emily and Rita are going to be rivals for the affections of none other than Dennis Tanner who arrives on screen next week! Any storyline that gives the senior members of the cast more screen time is great in my books.
So far, Philip Lowrie is only here for six months so it's probably moot which of the women ends up winning his heart, if either of them do. Knowing Dennis, he'll have a cheeky grin and won't be able to resist either of them, though Rita's slightly closer to his age. Even better, you just KNOW Norris' nose will be out of joint!
Yay! Looking forward to Dennis' return next week, and hopefully this rumoured story will happen!
ReplyDeleteLove rivals at their age? Come on! Why cant they just all be good pals? All the love rival business was done to death with Rita and Audrey before. Groundhog day again.
ReplyDeleteWell a story for both Emily and Rita is good enough for me, rather than Becky, Tina and Tracy.
ReplyDeleteDidn't think Dennis was Emily's type though, although they did co-produce plays in the early days if I'm correct?
Love it! As long as he doesn't con either of them. Am really hoping Dennises return mentions Elsies demise. Although referred to on a video special after pat phoenix's death its never been mentioned, to my knowledge, in the show. Should be at least acknowledged in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteyou never know Elsie might still be alive and well living in Portugal, she would be about 85 or 86 now I think ! her dealth mentioned in the video might be forgotten, if it wasn't mentioned in the show at the time.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why but I prefer the closure when a much loved character actually gets laid to rest after the actor or actress has passed away. Phyllis, Maud and Percy are still living it up at Mayfield Court retirement home which is a shame as in real life a do gooder like Emily would mention visiting them or their passing. Elsie was such a huge part of the show that her passing, however sad, should be reffered to by Dennis. I wonder whether Linda has finally given up on her brother or is she dead too? Will be interesting....
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anonymous : 4 May 2011 22:56. I hate it when the old characters just disappeared into the Mayfair Court Black Hole. There have been lots of opportunities mention these characters in short storylines. I was especially saddened when the 60th anniversaries of the Battle of Britain, D-Day and the end of WW2 passed without mentioning any of them-especially Percy Sugden. Slipped up there, writers!!!!
