Catherine Tyldesley has been cast as the daughter of the new Rovers landlady, Stella, played by Michelle Collins. The official ITV Coronation Street website reports that Catherine, 24, will play Eva Price and her first Corrie scenes will be screened next month.
And so if this rumour is true, and Stella turns out to be Leanne's real mum, this means Leanne and Eva will be half-sisters, making Eva Leanne's second half-sister along with Toyah.
Interesting. IMDB gives her date of birth as 1983, which makes her 27 rather than 24 and therefore rather older than I expected the daughter to be, but maybe she will be playing a bit younger than her actual age (she wouldn't be alone there).
ReplyDeleteI really don't want to sound like Nancy Negative, but don't we already have a set of half sisters where one was raised and the other abandoned by a parent? Its one thing to rehash old stories, but jeepers, Eileen & Julie still live on the street. Oh pleeeeeez don't let the Leanne rumor be true.
ReplyDeleteThinking about it...if the other rumour is true, she'll be Leanne's only half-sister, won't she? Toyah is her stepsister - she's Janice's daughter, not Les's.
ReplyDeleteSo Stella had it away with Les?!! What next Emily gets it on with Jason? Some pairings are stretching it a little credibility wise Im thinking!
ReplyDeleteI don't know about that Les certainly not homely and I could by that in his younger days he was charming especially to some one as young Stella would have been.
ReplyDeleteSo this is Phils plan? Get rid of Eddie, John and Graeme and bring in these characters for a storyline we have just had (With Julie). Boooooring
ReplyDeleteSee, I don't see how this is a reprise of the Eileen-Julie story at all. In that case it was a story about the two sisters and about them discovering that their dad had messed around with an underage girl. In this case it looks more likely to be a story about the mother and daughter, the reasons why the one abandoned the other, and how they both feel about each other now, all these years later. The other family members will be secondary to that central reunion. Totally different story because they are totally different characters with totally different backstory.
ReplyDeleteTo me its basically the same thing, Two different family members havent met/seen each other for years/ever and now they are meeting each other here.
ReplyDeleteI see they are using the actress that played the prison officer love interest in Emmerdale, another actor crossing from soap to soap. WHERE ARE THE NORTHERN UNKNOWNS? Its just the same faces in different roles, get original for once Corrie you used to be!
ReplyDeleteLlywela, it may not be the Julie/ Eileen story, but any other way it sounds straight out of a script for the Square sadly and not the Street no matter how Phill C wants to dress it up.
ReplyDeleteFrosty - true, so true!
There is no such thing as an original story, what matters is the spin that's put on it. A lot of storylines look pretty similar on the surface, if all you look at is the basic plot. What makes the difference is when you look at the actual characters involved, their personalities and situations, all of which generally combine to send the same basic plotline spinning off in totally different directions. Look beyond the basic plot outline fo the characters, that's where the interest lies.
ReplyDeleteI agree Llywela, Most stories are told and retold again. Nobody seems to complain when there's yet another love triangle i.e. Peter Leanne and Nick yet it's one of the staples of soaps. So why is it not ok to have a long lost parent and/or unknown half-sibling or child? Another soap staple. Greg Kelly, anyone? Adam Barlow? Danny Baldwin?
ReplyDeleteSomething else that's hit me that's more odd than anything else, is that this girl looks like Lucy Simon mom. Although Peter does seem to have a type other than Michele he's always gone for gobby blondes.
ReplyDeleteThere is such a thing as an original story - try Inception for a start. I agree a lot of the interest with most stories is about how the characters react, but some stories have been rehashed so often that it is just dull. And I don't recall no-one complaining about the Nick/Leanne/Peter love triangle. It was unrealistic, inconsistent and very badly done.
ReplyDeleteInception was a heist movie inside the mind, it was simply a new spin on an old concept actually. I personally like the idea of Leanne finding her long lost mother, its actually a lot more common that people think for family to reach out even after years. Ultimately what usually makes a successful soap story is how it serves the characters9 (which is why the affair fell flat) and I think this will bring about something interesting for Leanne not to mention spawn any number of family conflicts. I mean Peter's not exactly every mother dream is he? not too mention Leanne's rather checkered past.
ReplyDeleteSo Leanne finds her mother and after showing no interest in her for years, Leanne's mother starts criticising Leanne's past and husband. More depressing nonsense.
ReplyDeleteJane Danson is one of the best actresses and she deserves much better than such a very tired, unrealistic and boring story.
What I hate about this storyline is that there will be a big part for Leanne to play. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz she is so BORING!! Bring back Liz & Jim (it was all a dream) and get them married and run the bar. Get rid of Becky, Kylie and Tracy. Bring back Eddie and his original character premise. Now, you've got a cast to perhaps give us back the old Corrie with all the fun it used to be.
ReplyDeleteAs long as no one else is related to Tracy amd the producers come to their senses and send her packing again! Maybe her nad Becky will realize the two of them were ment to be and leave Weatherfield together. Or Becky kill Tracy and be sent to prison... Oh but then she would be back in just a year or two... Never mind..
