Oh, Graeme, Graeme, Graeme

Well, Graeme, I can't believe you actually went through with it. I was sure that you would abscond through the Registry Office toilet window. You certainly did seem to be unsure throughout the whole thing, although - as in several recent weddings in the street - we didn't get to see the whole 'I do' thing. Why is that? Is it no longer the done thing? Idle minds are wondering.

I thought that Nasty Norris ("If an immigration officer asks, I'll be telling them the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but!") might come to your rescue, but no such luck. Instead you're now sitting outside the Rovers with a wedding ring glinting on your finger, your wife on your left and your true love T on your right.

"We didn't think this through," you said. Oh, dear sweet lovely Graeme, I don't think you know just how deep you are.

  1. That's it then. He actually will fall in love with Xin and they'll go off somewhere where she's got a job.

  2. poor Graeme. I hope he does fall for Xin. They seem well suited.

also, unrelated, but remember how Kylie was on about getting name tattoos for her and David - doesn't she know about his Tina tattoo???

  3. Tvor: that would assume that Xin also falls in love with Graeme. She likes him but dies she really love him enough to do that? And is it credible as a story I.e. Gramme is a great guy but looks normal while Xin is a "babe".... ?

  4. I think Xin's better for Graeme anyway, Tina's the one who forced him into all this

  5. There's more chemistry between Xin and Graeme than there ever was between Tina (the shrieking, high maintenance shrew) Graeme. I happen to like the sham wedding/immigration story. And if the two wind up actually falling for each other... well, that's kinda different, isn't it? There are sham marriages all the time -- Kylie's and David's may be a sham marriage if Kylie is indeed just marrying David for a "meal" ticket... why so hard on the sham marriage between Graeme and Xin? Oh... it's against the law you say? Well, well... so's absconding with the kids to Spain or to France, so's not reporting or confessing to making a huge scratch on a certain bookie's sportscar a little while ago while moving the Kabin's sandwich board sign -- and nearly letting a man die locked up in the Rovers' cellar as a consequence.

So Xin wants to stay in the UK- live and work here so takes the opportunity given her by her friends. Frankly, I reserve judgment on that -- there are worse crimes than immigration fraud. And I'm surprised that Norris is so huffy about it. I'm also cheesed off by Rita who thought this whole thing was about her and being dishonest towards her? When did she turn into a little girl? A woman's future is at stake and Graeme may go to jail... and she's crying because they "lied" to her??? Oh, my bleeding heart for poor Rita...

Has anyone watched the US sitcome "Hot in Cleveland" where the UK actress who used to play Daphane in "Frasier" plays a Brit who's constantly looking for a "husband" so that she can get a green card so she can stay in the US...

  6. I too am surprised that Grahame went through with it albeit reluctantly and why is Norris nasty? Hey what's a bit of immigration fraud when we have murdrerers, thieves, embezzelers and a would be rapist living happily on the Street. No wonder this country is so crime ridden when anything illegal is seen as OK and anyone that is law abiding is seen as "nasty".

And why was Miss Macintyresome feeling so sorry for herself, she orchestrated the whole thing for her "best mate", now she can happily go off with Tommy Duckworth, pretty she may be outside but she sure aint inside.

  7. Is the country crime-ridden? There's organized crime, yes... and the police will have you believe crime is rising so that their ever-increasing budgets will get approved year after year. More policemen, more speeding violations they catch, more paperwork, more to the police crime stats so it looks like crime is always on the rise. Immigration fraud is the least of our worries. If you're worried about that -- then don't bother getting out of bed. You'll be frightened then of people who cut off the tags off their mattresses...tax frauds, welfare cheats, corporations who "beg" or lobby governments for contracts or just "money"... I find Norris really nasty because he's a hypocrite and a fink. Go try living in a country where you can't trust your neighbors and anything suspicious like YOU getting a Communist newspaper in your mailbox gets reported to the police... then define and try drawing the line between nasty and law-abiding...

  9. I think this has been an awful storyline from start to finish and I was longing for Norris to "grass them up". But it's been on the cards that they would fall for each other so I expect that will be Graeme's exit storyline. Moving away from Weatherfield with Xin. Shame as far as I'm concerned - I really like Graeme.

  10. I think the main objection i had to the immigration story is that it came out of nowhere. Tina had a sudden best friend whom we had never heard of and this just seemed all so forced from the start as an obvious ploy leading to graeme's departure. Adding Norris to the mix at least made it a bit more interesting.

Yes, Norris is nasty and he always has been, remember, he was the one that stole Derek's gnome and taunted him for months with postcards from the gnome. His idea of a practical joke went on far too long for it to be done as a laugh, such as Des Barnes might have done. He did it because he just didn't like Derek.

  13. Well, I won't miss this character..just because he did a total 180 from when he first came to the street. For someone so 'street' smart...he sure turned into an idiot in about 5 minutes. I would rather have him been the son of a wealthy Lord (a sort of prodigal son) and head back to his roots to the shock of everybody..especially Norris.I suppose there was supposed to have been some humour with the 3 of them trying to keep the sham engagement/marriage a secret but it really fell flat. Glad it's over.

  14. Anon above, I do agree to a certain extent with what you say. Grahame's character was a real find and then they put him, very unlikely, with Tina Macintyresome and from thenon his character was ruined and it was downhill all the way. The woman is a blight on all that get involved with her, like some accursed siren.
