Andrew Lancel keeps Frank on the dark side

Andrew Lancel plays Frank Foster, the new Underworld buyer who made aggressive advances to Maria. There's an interview with him in the Sun and the actor is hoping his character will go down in Corrie history as one of the memorable villains, like Alan Bradley or Richard Hillman. He's ambitious, I'll say that for him!

He says Frank is going to continue to pressurise Maria into keeping her mouth shut by threatening her with a lawsuit for saying he tried to rape her. He understands he went too far but thinks Maria's overreacted. Andrew says "Don't mess with Frank." and he's looking forward to our reaction.

Me, I'm waiting for Chris to find out how this guy roughed up his girlfriend. Frank could just get a little taste of his own medicine!

I just find Frank a sleaze, why does he keep hanging around anyway, if he is such a busy businessman. Drinking in the Rovers with the workforce, just wouldnt happen. Maria's "rabbit in headlights" expression every time he comes near, is getting pretty tiresome now. I think this would have been better played by Kym Marsh. Why is Maria even still in the faktry anyway, she wouldnt need the money after the sale of Glad Rags and she has a toddler to look after, she obviously isnt enjoying it.

  2. She's been thrown into a storyline that she wasn't supposed to be in. It's unfortunate that it doesn't work

  3. She took Michelle's place and storyline and it's just not working. Maria is a dunce anyway and the writers had better come up with more for her to do than look shocked and scared and swallow nervously whenever his name is mentioned. It's not like he actually did the deed anyway so it's really getting old fast.

  5. I agree that it's unrealistic with Maria in the factory, and even more so that she's staying there after what has happened. But that aside I think it's a quite a good storyline, exploring the grey area of sexual assault, and Maria is working well in this plot IMO. It will be interesting to see what Frank does next.

The character of Maria (since it's her now and not Belle Michelle) should draw on her life experience of almost marrying the murderer of her husband, then watching him wave a gun in the faces of Carla and Hayley as a prison escapee, and dying a gruesome death. She shouldn't be portrayed as some young innocent with no life experience. Bad writing and directing.

I wonder if the writers have been watching the show for the past few years?

  7. Well done to Andrew Lancel for playing Frank Foster as a subtle villain and shaking off his role in The Bill. He plays Frank as straight-faced and inscrutable which hits the spot, if he was too evil, evil he would lose credibility. Andrew also portrays Frank's deep rooted insecurity very well and make's it plausible that he would hang around Underworld and The Rover's feeling like a big fish in a little pool.
