So far, so good . . .

I have to admit that, give the excitement of the December episodes, I was a little worried of a post-Christmas anti-climax feel to the New Year episodes. To date, I don't think I should have been all that concerned. The storylines have kept the action bubbling along and some of them have been a complete joy. The new versions of Sally and Kevin are fantastic. Sally seems determined to build herself a new future whereas Kevin decided to come out all guns blazing! There's going to be no civilised divorce in the Webster household and hopefully (for us) no amicable friendship in the future!

Tracy's return hasn't been quite as painful as expected. Yes, she's still the same selfish creature that she used to be but was that a small sign of humanity I spotted in respect of the Peter/Liane/Nick saga?

Maybe one or two aspects of the show seem a little ragged. As the wonderful Tvor has already pointed out, the Lloyd/Cheryl love-in came from nowhere. Dev has largely disappeared and Sunita exists only to gossip with Audrey. Plus the scriptwriters seem to be wringing the last shreds of decency out of Fiz, whose change in character seems awkward at best.

Peter Barlow's aura of dark menace has been wonderfully played by Chris Gascoyne and, for once, the character was not portrayed as a complete sap. Leanne beware! In the same vein, Gary Windass also quite rightly took centre stage for a moving storyline.

For me then, a quite positive start to 2011 in Weatherfield but what about you? What's hot and what's not in Weatherfield as far as you are concerned?

  2. The Lloyd/Cheryl thing could easily be explained away by saying the events of the tram crash brought them together (Cheryl was nearly killed by the blast)

Corrie has been really good this year, I like that none of the characters are overused anymore too

  3. I do find it hard to accept that characters change their spots so much. Peter B is certainly a different man from a few weeks ago - but what happens when the sap sees the sapling child again - will the tears see him realise that in the end he only has eyes for that one time prostitute?

  7. Chris Gascoyne has been sensational as Peter and what superb acting keeping that rage inside while preparing for the blessing......enjoying his sinister side.....asking Nick to be Best Man and getting Carla and Leanne together in the Rovers as a surprise...ooooh! Fiz is getting on my last shredded nerve and has that space between her two front teeth widened or does it seem like that because she now annoys me so much..? I miss the Dev/Steve friendship and comedy routines.

  8. Fiz's character has dwindled to that of a simpering dunce. She was a street wise smart girl when she was first introduced but now..always crying and wringing her hands. What's next? Black sack cloth and ashes? Bring back our feisty Fiz so she can give that uselss John Stape a good clither in the gob!!

  9. Yea, Fiz went from bad to worse. At least now she has a bit of an excuse in that she has to care for Hope. But not that big of a bit. Mothers can come out fighting for their babes, and I hope she transforms as Stape's true evilness is exposed.

I agree that Chris Gasgoyne has played sinister very well. We've known about Leanne & Nick forever. He just found out the whole horrible truth, and is mulling over all those times when Leanne came home late. His revenge is bad, but oh so soap-worthy.
