Corrie photographer Rob Evans captures the people behind the characters in this beautiful collection of photographs. Throughout Corrie's 50th Anniversary year, he took a series of stunning cast portraits on the Street. The photographs will form an exhibition at Manchester-based gallery, Generation Pop on Friday 28 January. The pictures will be on show to the public until Wednesday 16 February 2011.
On Thursday 17 February the gallery will hold a VIP star-studded charity auction of the signed images with all proceeds going to the Coronation Street 50th anniversary appeal. During the exhibition the public will be able to make silent bids for any of the signed photographs whilst at the gallery.
Rob Evans said: "I’ve been Coronation Street's photographer for three years and it’s a unique job, and a unique place to work. The cast work really hard creating the characters we all know and love on-screen, yet they are so rarely seen as themselves - however the 50th Anniversary year gave me the chance to create this exhibition, the concept of which is to portray the actors I've come to know. These images capture just that - the real people behind the characters, but surrounded with elements that relate to their Corrie world."

ReplyDeletei agree i think that it should be open to all of the public or at least tickets . nothing! now fans cant visit the set or even take part in a charity auction i think its wrong so wrong i might move to america at least you can visit the set from the other side of the world maybe they are the vips to this event ! its about time the english people were invited to got onto the set !
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, there's nothing from stopping you joining any of the Corrie tours out of canada by joining them in the UK, you would just arrange to pay the land only price rather than the included airfare price
ReplyDeletei didnt know that i have looked on the sites doing tour and how i read it it says canada citizens only ! which one is the best to approach ?
ReplyDeleteHi - think I can help by answering a couple of the questions about the exhibition as it's being held at our gallery.
ReplyDeleteQ:'and how is the public able to bid if its vip only ?'
A: By visiting the gallery during normal opening hours between Friday 28th January and Wednesday 16th February and letting a member of gallery staff know your bid
Q: 'i agree i think that it should be open to all of the public or at least tickets . nothing!'
A: The exhibition is open to the public, free of charge, during gallery opening hours. Although I can't speak for ITV, I would think if you are one of the highest bidders they would be happy to invite you back as this is, after all, for charity.
As Corrie fans ourselves, we're really excited about the exhibition and are looking forward to welcoming other fans through the doors!
Rob did a fantastic job on these photos! I love that they're in black and white, sets a wonderful mood!
ReplyDeleteThe Guardian has a set of some of the photos at their website today. I hope it's OK that put the URL here. http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/tvandradioblog/gallery/2011/jan/19/coronation-street-photography
