Last year, Sally Webster discovered she had cancer and so did Sally Dyvenor. She went through treatment and recovered while Sally, the character, was recovering off screen and returned to Coronation Street in July. The actress has been wearing a wig for her filming but is now hoping she can dump the wig on screen as she has off screen.
There's a nice long interview with Sally in the Daily Mail with photos of her new look which is very cute, short and sassy! She says she is now cancer-free and looking forward, gratefully. Sally Dyvenor celebrates 25 years in Coronation Street in January. Some of you may recall her first scene, standing on the side of the road when Kevin Webster drove through a puddle and splashed her. Turns out, she and Michael Le Vell acted together in Oldham Theatre when they were teens. She talks about her character's history including the fight on the cobbles with "Natalie Horrocks" and filming Rosie's birth in a taxi. She also reveals a bit more about filming Sally Webster's storyline dealing with cancer when she herself was waiting for a diagnosis.
At the end of that really wonderful interview, there's another long piece about Coronation Street and how it's evolved over the past half century. It seems that although things do change, there's still a lot that hasn't, including sexy affairs, murder and mayhem. At the bottom, there are photos of 10 memorable Coronation Street women and I agree with every last one of them!
Make yourself a nice cuppa, get a few biscuits and sit down for an enjoyable read.
I love Sally Webster, I really do - pretentious snob, caring mother, and, yes, complete trollop too! Lovely pics of Sally Dyvenor in this great article. So pleased she has the all clear - what a great role model!
