Quality Street

Wow! What a night! I can only just bring myself around to blogging about it. First things first, Peter Barlow - is he dead or isn't he?! What a cliffhanger to leave us on! Jane Danson stole the show tonight with her scenes.

Little Hope Stape made her way into the world, 3 months prematurely. I really hope she pulls through. Poor Molly Dobbs finally let go tonight, but with a huge weight off her shoulders, she finally got to admit to Sally her betrayal.

"He chose you, because you're beautiful, inside and out."
We got news that a father of three, who was driving past The Joinery lost his life, but Ian Wylie is wondering - do we know him? Coronation Street proved to the nation why it deserves its place on TV tonight, brilliant, live drama.

  2. Yeah, he's dead. Don't forget the week's catch-phrase is "Four Funerals and a Wedding". We've had the wedding - Leanne & Peter on his deathbed. Mind you, we've only had the two deaths so far - Ashley & Molly(unless you count the poor sod driving the tram), so there's two to come. Bonkers Charlotte seems yet to have breath in her body, so she might still not be one. Peter might well survive that scary-looking cardiac arrest on tying the knot with Leanne, but frankly it looks very unlikely. One presumes that Rita is still hanging on in there - she could be sustaining herself on mint humbugs and Lucozade if they're within reach, but for the love of God, how long before somebody twigs that she really ain't in some downtown Manchester gin joint with Doreen? She's a woman of advanced years, not feckin' Scary Spice. Meanwhile, Sunita seems to be perking up.

So - Peter Barlow is funeral number 3, I reckon. Number 4? Who knows. Might yet be bonkers Charlotte. At least Stapey-boy has managed to drag her damning carcase out of his front room.

Course they could throw a complete curve ball and make the fourth funeral Tracy Barlow. :-O

  3. Well, Ian Wylie could be on to something. The tram driver did survive, they said that as they pulled him out. It's possible that the father of three is a former character or someone we have heard of or it might be the "Ensign Toast", expendable crew member, and they've cheated on the fourth death.

I just can't imagine they've killed off yet another member of Ken's immediate family. It seems so cruel that his mother, his first wife, his second wife, two of his children all die suddenly and tragically (and his father of old age, apparently).

  4. Uh, born 3 months premature from a trauma induced labor, won't #4 be Hope? I'll be bawling for Fiz and John, but not as much as for Simon, Leanne and the Barlows if it's Peter.

ACCCKKKK, you don't think they're going to let Tracy out on some sort of compassionate release? Nooooooooooooooooooo

  5. AbbyK,

After the forensic expert who gave evidence at Tracey's trial is discredited, her conviction for the murder of Charlie Stubbs is subsequently ruled unsafe and she is actually going to be released back into the Weatherfield community on a permanent basis.

  6. Worst acting last night - Fiz, without a doubt.

Carla was getting right up my nose too, why was she even there? I know she's a "friend" of Leanne's but still .....

I really hope Peter doesn't die and I hope they find Rita PDQ!

  7. As regards the father of three that lost his life, I thought that the firemen were talking about the pile-up that had deleyed the emergency services getting to Coronation Street.

They'd be mad to kill off a great character like Peter - and Chris Gasgoyne does a stirling job portraying him. Easy on the eye too. :P Fingers, toes and eyes crossed that he pulls through tonight!

  9. To the list of dead Barlow relatives don't forget brother and nephew!

I really hope that Peter is not dead. Would we not have seen something that suggests the actor is leaving? We knew about the other deaths, so I'm not convinced Peter is a gonner. I'd also be surprised that they would have built up his relationship with Carla only to loose him... She hasn't had the chance to spill the beans yet!

Father of three was killed by the gas explosion. Could it be Martin Platt? adopted Sarah-Lou, David and then child from new relationship, or Bill Webster?

  10. @Sunny Jim - If you watch the explosion at the Joinery again, you will notice a car drives past it just as it happens

  11. Worst acting last night - Fiz, DillyDaydream? Surely not. Dev and Ben Price were in the show.

  12. Have updated that transcript about the man who died trapped in his car and added two screen grabs of the vehicle. The "father of three" refers to the second fireman - not the man in the car. Which widens the possibilities of who it might be. Unless he turns out to be simply a random - and very unlucky - stranger passing through at the time of the blast:
