ITV to screen Jack Duckworth tribute

Farewell Jack, a tribute to Jack Duckworth, will be screened on ITV1 on Wednesday, 10 November at 7.30pm.

In this half-hour documentary friends and Coronation Street colleagues pay tribute to the work of Bill Tarmey and the actor shares his memories from playing one of TV’s national treasures.

  4. I'm interested why they say Jack was in it for 31 years as he was in it very briefly in late 1979, but not in it at all in 1980!

    1980, the missing year... mind you, I'm flamin' nit-pickin' me!

    So sorry to see him go. And such a sad storyline.

  5. In fact anon, I was reading that he wasn't actually given a contract by Granada until as late as 1983 when he and Vera moved into number 9 Coronation Street.

    Prior to this, he was still working as a singer in the clubs and just popped in and out as Jack on a 'casual basis' as and when he was needed.

  6. That's quite right. Bill Tarmey's long-term contract was well covered by tabloid newspapers in 1983 - and he was delighted by it. It happened in the wake of the '83 "Vince St Clair" story-line.
