Is this the end for the glam older woman on Corrie?

I was gutted to hear that Beverley Callard is to leave Coronation Street. For me, Liz McDonald is up there in the top three best ever Rover's landladies. She's got the right looks, the right cleavage, and definitely the right attitude to be able to handle with total class anything the punters throw at her. Her relationship with Steve and Amy is believable and what on earth will they do without her?
I know a lot of people have an affection for Big Jim so they do (HAVE to add that!) but personally my favourite Liz liaisons were with Lloyd - great cringey moments when Steve found out - and definitely Vernon. And her conversations with Deirdre, especially round at the Barlows' as somebody previously commented, were gems - always highlights for me. I will be so sorry to see her go. And where does this leave the glam older woman with a glad eye for the gents on Corrie? Who's left? Don't tell me the Corrie team have decided to abandon the Elsie Tanner/Bet Lynch tradition (yes, I know Elsie was in a class of her own, but you know what I'm trying to say). We've got Eileen and Deirdre, who are around the right age but who don't fit the bill and we've got Julie (too young and ditsy), Carla (possible, but again too young) - I'm struggling here. Anybody else got any ideas? or, has the Elsie/Bet tradition just passed its sell by?

  1. Even Bet was young once and i do think Julie has the best potential for glam for Glam's sake!

  5. such a shame love liz class character of the street i grew up watching her and jim. its a sign of things to come for the street in my eyes. the new era may come sooner than we think the sad part is the new era will never capture the amazing characters of its past

  6. You're right Garden Pixie - we do need a new cougar. I don't think anybody else but Liz can cut it just now as they're all too young or don't have enough of the right kind of glam.
