Stupid Girl: Sun Sep 5, 2010 Corrie Episode Review

Sep-5-2010

Written by Martin Allen & Chris Fewtrell, directed by Graeme Harper

Sally feels she’s scraping the barrel since they’re calling friends that Sophie isn’t even close with.  She’s blaming herself for why Sophie ran away and could possibly be in danger.  Rosie hears there’s no news on Sophie, and gives her father his birthday present anyway, for as happy as it’ll make him.  Rosie figures that Sophie will soon come to her senses.  Sally’s just worried that something might happen to her before that.  The Websters call the police and the policewoman asks how much money they have and whySep-5-2010-Claire-Ash she’d run away.  Sally tells the officer how Sophie and Sian have a very close friendship – they have feelings for one another.  Kev adds that they think they might be lesbians.  Bill is shocked that it’s true.  The officer tells them that most people that run away come back quickly.  In the street, Bill decides that he and Kev need to split up to look for Sophie.  They tell Lloyd and Michelle that Sophie’s run away with Sian.

Claire is upset at home and Ashley comes to tell her how the teen lovers have ran away.  Claire thinks she’ll get the blame for that too since she’s “blown” their cover.  Ashley thinks there might be more to this than meets the eye.  Perhaps Sophie and Sian did something to Aadi which is why they ran away and it makes more sense than running away just because they’re gay.  Claire wishes she could run Sep-5-2010-Simon-Sad away sometimes.  The Devster gives Claire more grief but Ashley tells the Alahans that Sophie and Sian have run away and if they had a clear conscience about Aadi, why did they run away?  Claire tells Ashley she’s going to her mum’s for a bit and can’t take this anymore.

Sally is upset and Rita tries to assure Sally that Sophie and Sian aren’t going to do anything stupid and will be okay.  She assures Sally that she’s a great mum and not to think otherwise. Claire should be happy since at least someone else is on her side now – Eddie Windass – or should she be.  In the pub, he tells Claire that he’s on her side and it’s not her fault that the girls ran off, but her parents or their own for hiding something.

Leanne and Simon come into the shop and ask how Aadi is doing.  Sunita says he’s doing better every day.  Simon is acting funny again, around Sunita.  Simon says he doesn’tSep-5-2010-Alahans want to play with Aadi again and Leanne has him apologize.  The Alahan’s are making some noise in Aadi’s hospital room like happy families again.  Aadi is doing quite well and the doctor says that Aadi can be released early next week and all are happy.  Although, the doctor says Aadi still can’t remember what happened.  Dev moves his blame to the teenagers but Sunita thinks the girls ran away because they’re lesbians – Sunita says it was right under her nose in the shop and been going on for months.  Dev still thinks they might be moreso guilty for hurting his son.

Sep-5-2010-Rosie-phone At home later, Rosie gets a call from Sophie.  Rosie demands to know where she is and if she’s alright.  Sally overhears and grabs the phone off Rosie but it seems that Sophie has hung up to the sound of her mother’s voice.  Kev tries calling the last number but it’s no good.  Rosie says she might have figured out where Sophie was if she hadn’t grabbed the phone she’d have figured it out.  Rosie tells her mum that she’d have run away if she were Sophie too since Sally can’t hack her being a lesbian, and she knows it.

Kylie’s counting all the dosh she got from Steve’s bike as Becky and Steve come in.  Steve says he rang the insurance company and he’ll Sep-5-2010-Max-Birthdayhave to fill in ten million pages, and might get a cheque for half the amount.  Becky thinks that he should have sold that bike to begin with.  Becky tells Kylie that they’ll get a cab to Max’s birthday party and he can pay.  Kylie goes into the Kabin and gets an expensive fire truck for her son.  Norris is shocked that she’s able to pay for it, and Kylie even lets him keep the change.  Becky wants to know how Kylie paid for the gift later, and Kylie says she pawned her rings for it saying she’d rather pay her own way.  Kylie feels a bit guilty methinks when Becky says that she’s proud of her and if she carries on like that she’ll get Max back.

At Max’s birthday, Max is delighted to see his present and the foster parents hope that she didn’t get that money for it by doing anything illegal, to which Becky looks offended.  While Kylie is playing with Max, Becky asks the foster parents how optimistic they are about Kylie getting Max back.  The foster parents say that she’ll probably get him back, but it’s all a matter of timing.  The foster mother says that these things are never done Sep-5-2010-Kylie-sonin a hurry.  Max wishes for his birthday that he could be with his mummy forever.  Awe, how sweet.  Before they leave, Kylie takes Max to the loo.  The foster mother realizes they’ve been a while and goes up to the loo to find Max and Kylie missing.  The foster father runs out and says “stupid girl.”  How will this help Kylie’s chances of getting Max back now?  The fosters want to call the police but Becky begs they don’t in case Kylie gets in trouble.  They say that they’ll get themselves into trouble if they don’t.  Sure enough, he calls the police to report an abduction.  Becky goes out to find Kylie and Max.

Well, it shouldn’t he hard to find them, since Kylie runs through the pub with Max in arms as Liz looks stunned and Steve stutters outSep-5-2010-Becky-Kylie questions.  Becky arrives and Steve tells her they’re in the back.  Kylie’s packed her bags and Becky tells her that a life on the run isn’t a good idea.  Becky puts Kylie and Max in the front room, then calls social services to report her there safe with Max.  Kylie wants to know what social services thinks she’s going to do to Max and Becky says “run off with him.”  Becky tells Kylie that it just isn’t as simple as running off with her son and making a fresh start.  She says if they’re going to get Max back, they have to play it their way.  The police come in and Kylie gets angry and feels betrayed that Becky called them.  Becky says that if she wants Max back, she has to follow the police rules.  Kylie wants to know why she cares and she says because she’s her sister and he’s her nephew.

Sep-5-2010-Natasha-stick Nick won’t rest with the baby names and asks Fiz when the food cravings start as Natasha looks guilty and Fiz just looks awkward.  In the Rovers later, Fiz gets angry at Natasha for not telling Nick.  Natasha thinks she might be pregnant again since something doesn’t feel right but she hasn’t taken a test yet.  Natasha takes a test later at Fiz’s place and anticipates a positive result.  Fiz reminds her that it’s still a long shot.  Natasha figures that as long as she’s having Nick’s baby she knows he’ll stand by her.  If only she knew that before.  Natasha gets Fiz to read her the results, and it’s clear that it’s negative.

Ken has a conversation with Emily about how he got in contact with Lawrence.  He tells her how he was always intimidated by Susan since she was middle class.  Emily hopes he doesn’t forget about Deirdre, since she’s more than what “might have been.”  Ken assures her that he won’t forget about Deirdre.  Deirdre arrives and Ken tells her that Susan passed away a few years ago and Deirdre thinks that’s a shame for Ken.  Ken tells Deirdre that Lawrence, Susan’s son, is coming around for tea today, to which Deirdre isn’t happy about!  Ken warns Deirdre not to embarrass him in front of Lawrence.Sep-5-2010-Deirdre-Ken

Ken’s fluffing pillows and tells Deirdre to either behave in a civilized way or make herself scarce for a few hours.  Deirdre thinks god forbid she should tarnish the image of the blessed Susan.  Could she be more jealous?  Lawrence arrives and Deirdre is stunned at his image since he is the SPIT of Ken!  This is so uncanny!  Deirdre gets nosy and asks Lawrence if he’s married.  Lawrence says he was, but his wife died some years ago. Lawrence says his marriage wasn’t a very good one for his own fault since he never really adopted to monogamy.  Well, what a coincidence.  After he leaves, Ken was going on and on about Lawrence and Deirdre says she saw a lot more than his mother.  Deirdre tells Ken how Lawrence is the absolute spit of him and they have the same mannerisms even.  Deirdre says  she’s telling him what he already knows – he’s Lawrence’s father.

Sep-5-2010-Ken-Lawrence Ken invites Lawrence back to his and tells him to sit down.  Ken says that this concerns Susan, but it’s more about his father.  Ken asks him when he was born and he tells Ken August 1961.  Ken says that Susan and he parted in January 1961 and there was nobody else involved.   Lawrence and Ken have a drink in the Rovers later and Lawrence tells Ken that it’s a lot to take in.  Are they even wearing matching outfits?  Ken says he never had the opportunity to speculate and if he’d had the slightest inkling that he’d have been there.  I wonder when Ken’s going to tell Lawrence about all his half-siblings.  Lawrence says he feels so cheated since his whole life could have been entirely different, and Ken agrees.  Ken tells Lawrence that he often thought about Susan and the mistake that he regrets the most is not getting in contact with Susan, and now even more so.  Lawrence tells Ken about his two children, his engaged daughter at Exeter and his son James.  James works in a homeless charity around there somewhere and he’s hard to keep up with.

HIGHLIGHTS

- Norris thinking that the 5th of September is very unlucky, and then they have Kylie paying them a full favour for the biggest toy in the shop.  Not so unlucky?

- Leanne saying she had a crush on a girl when she was thirteen – but er, it was more of an idol worship thing.  Uh-huh.

- Norris: “Tina lived in a dark room with a mentally ill window cleaner.”  You mean, your housemate Graeme, Norris?

- I love seeing Linus Roache (Lawrence) on screen!  I miss seeing him on the now defunct Law & Order!

- Rita to Eddie Windass: “You keep your grubby little thoughts to yourself in the future.”

- Ken: “I can’t remember the last time I sunk my teeth into a good old literary debate.”  Deirdre: “On land?”  (in reference to Martha’s boat?)

- Steve looking stupid in his old demin jacket.  I love the “aside” banter between Steve and Liz that is constantly going on, however.

LOWLIGHTS

- Gross!  Eddie dropping bacon on the floor and then eating it off afterwards in the cafe!

- What’s with Deirdre’s rotten spoiled attitude towards Ken?  How could she be jealous about a woman who is not longer with us?

- Poor little Max for being dragged around like that!

- Rosie reckoning that it’s good that Sophie’s a lipstick lesbian and not some “butch.”  My gawd…

- Did anyone else feel a tear when Kylie had to give her son back to the foster parents?

  1. the Roach father and son were brilliant as KenandLawrence together! Excellent timing! They couldn't have mimicked each other better!

  2. Sorry disagree, I find the Roach sons very wooden. As we dont really know the characters I find it hard to care either!

  3. Well, it always takes time for new characters to fit in, as well as gain approval of viewers. I suspect the "boys" knew this, esp. since it's not an overly long storyline? I'm enjoying seeing Bill's fambly onscreen and it's already developing into some good scrappiness!
