Coronation Street weekly awards, August 9 - 13

Oh Alfeh! award: Mayoral Star: Poor Audrey. Foolish she may have been but I did feel sorry for her.

Reinforcing the cliche award: Gold Star: Friday the 13th was pretty bad luck for a lot of people: Barlow's Bookies, Deirdre, Audrey, Natasha, Sophie and Sian.

Too little too late award: Gold Star: Stape protesting his love for Fiz as she's out the door on holiday without him.
Silver star: Lewis didn't rip off Audrey but she found out the hard truth about him anyway.

King of the Insults award: Gold Star: Stape again, he castigated Charlotte and Dev all in the space of an episode.

The walls have ears... and eyes award: Gold Star: Lewis distracted Deirdre with a kiss under the watchful eye of the CCTV! That came to come back and bite her and landed a cake on her face too.

Life in the slow lane award: Dusty star: Kirk. He figures in 20 years when Chesney's a billionaire, he'll still be his mate. And nothing else.

Slave Driver award: Gold Star: Carla must have cracked the whip over Owen's workers. I'm sure he said that factory would take six weeks to open and it's only been about two and a half.

Nose like an anteater award: Smelly star: Julie snuffling out the sardine sarnies!

Busted! Deirdre for kissing Lewis. Sophie and Sian for getting caught after the music festival.

Lines of the Week:

Chesney to John: "You know what, Stape, you give Scum a bad name!"
John: "The only person I can talk to is a delusional nutter who's got it into her thick skull that I actually fancy her when the truth is, she actually makes my flesh creep!" Charlotte: "It's us that belong together!"
Dev about Fiz leaving John: "Most women go home to their mothers. But then, I know her mother. Majorca is a better option."
Lewis to Deirdre: "I'm sure I'm not the first love-struck fool to put you on the spot!" (well, my monitor *did* need cleaning!)
Gail about David: "He can be very dynamic when he puts his mind to it." (Don't you mean demonic?)
Owen to Bill: "You kicked the bucket, Grandad!!" (Bill must be past it if he left a bucket on a board overhanging the road. Very dangerous!)
David teasing Nick about Natasha: "Tip her the wink, she'll even go to the toilet for you!"
Natasha: "No one's ever had to chase me" (And that, dear, is your problem)

Some really good episodes this week! Sophie and Sian got caught out, of course they would. Now they're pulled apart by fate and Sally Webster. Their real relationship is bound to come out, (literally and figuratively) soon. Hayley's hen night is next week, it's going to be a blast. I choose to believe that Lewis really did back away and leave Audrey with her money intact. I think he did have a few pangs of guilt along the way.

  1. If Gail did mean 'dynamic' (rather than 'demonic') to describe David, she is as much in touch with reality as he is. Dynamic is an adjective about as far removed from David as one can imagine. He has no education and no skills, and has no intention of obtaining any. He is a errand boy who sweeps hair and will likely be a little loser for all his life. Besides that, he is a horrible little toe rag with no redeeming qualities whatssoever.

  2. I had to get the hankies out when Audrey broke down sobbing at the end - hated to see her upset like that (have I been watching Corrie too long?!)
    Loving the Bill Webster/Owen thing.

  3. I've enjoyed the past few episodes very much!
I'm so glad that Lewis appears to have cared for Audrey as a person, and did not steal her money along with her heart.
As deeply disappointed and humiliated as Audrey is feeling, privately she can feel that he "tried" and wasn't only after her for her material worth.
Deirdre on the other hand has been duped, and did allow herself to be, a completely different situation!
Loved the "Manchester tart" in the face of a ...well, Deirdre!

I'm also enjoying David as he's been since his mother's incarceration.
Finally mature and with a sense of humour.
Ah but how long can that possibly last?

  4. How about the shortest "role" in Corrie ever award?

Lysette Anthony for her one minute stint in the airport bar wearing a flowerpot on her head and having two lines that any extra could have done after much reporting in the papers that "she was joining Corrie". Shame on you Mr Collinson.

  5. Oh I agree!
The Sun ran a bit on Lewis filming with Lysette Anthony, made a bit of a to-do about it, reminding readers who she is/was etc...
Was looking forwards to how they'd use the actress, and then to see(??) her exactly as described above!
What a let down, she could have been 'anybody'.

  7. Prime example of an actor's agent bigging up their client so as to attract attention to hopefully get them more work.

Most of these newspaper pieces are agent's press releases and are just full of crap.

Witness all the "press activity" surrounding Adam bloody Rickett over the last few months.

It's a form of rather tacky advert. Good actors don't have to prostitute themselves publicly like that.

  8. Why does the penmanship of Lewis' "I tried" look as if Simon wrote it? Surely Lewis would write more masculine and artistic than this?

    Or is it just me?
