There's a daft story in today's Sun that says Vera Duckworth will be returning to Corrie, as a ghost. Oh no, they'll need the exorcist in again - anyone remember him? "Omnibus, trolleybus!"
Vera, will apparantly reappear before Jack finally leaves the cobbles. The paper says that Corrie are developing a story that sees Vera's spirit come back to Weatherfield to chat to Jack before he leaves in December.
I hope she won't be speaking though, just an appearance. Like they did with Jack Sugden in Emmerdale. He didn't say nowt, and it was more effective and poigniant. Maybe because the actor himself had died.
ReplyDeleteDepends on how they do it...I'm not big on visitations from the afterlife as a plot device, but Vera would be the exception and if they choose to have her chat with her beloved, dear Jack before he leaves the Cobbles-- well, why not?
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the gossip afterwards about a spirit hanging about, actually -- starting with Norris who'll probably give a bit of a start each time he looks or passes their flat!
I think it will be less of a ghost, more of an "inner conversation" that Jack has in his mind with Vera, I hope it takes place in an empty Rovers
ReplyDeleteI like it.
ReplyDeleteMust admit the article made it out to be more laughable, but, handled with sensitivity, as I'm sure it will be, I think it will indeed be poignant.
Jack has, since Vera died, been shown to 'talk' to her, consult her and show affection for her memory. His leaving will be sad enough, I think this 'visitation' will be appropriate.
Well, exactly. Since "ghosts" do not exist, Jack's "conversation" with Vera will of course be all in his mind - as he loved Vera so much, it makes sense to him, if no-one else, that he can still hear his Swamp-Duck's voice. As has been pointed out, this is not without precedent in Jack's case, and it actually reflects many peoples' actual experience. Could be a Kleenex job if done well - which I expect it will be.
ReplyDeleteOmnibus MINIBUS....
ReplyDeleteI think you'll find (ahem) it's omnibus, trolleybus...

I hope this isn't true...just seems disrespectful in a way.
