ITV has issued a press release to let us know that leading the Manchester Pride parade this summer will be a Coronation Street float! This year's parade is themed "Through the Decades", perfect for a television show that's lasted five of them! What the actual theme of the float will be is still under wraps but you can expect cast and crew to be participating.
Jackie Crozier, festival director of Manchester Pride, said: “Coronation Street is a Mancunian institution with a global following and we’re delighted they’re teaming up with Manchester Pride in this, their 50th anniversary year. Through characters like Sean Tully, Hayley Cropper, Todd Grimshaw and, most recently, Sophie Webster, they have helped to raise awareness of the issues facing the LGBT community to millions of loyal viewers."
For all your Pride 2010 events, check out the official Pride website.
Looks like it will be a great parade and a great weekend. If you're in the area at the end of August, check it out! The parade will take place in Manchester city centre on August 28.
