Something Ain’t Right: Thu Apr 1, 2010 Corrie Episode Review

April-1-2010

Written by Julie Jones, directed by John Anderson

Steve has booked he and Becky into a hotel for a cheeky mini-retreat in Newcastle, but at least the room has a jacuzzi. Liz isn’t happy to hear that they’reApril-1-2010-Becky-Steve off this afternoon leaving her in amiss with bar staff. Steve is set on making steak and kidney pie with spotted dick and custard but Sunita suggests he just go out and buy something and pretend he made it instead to avoid all the work. Steve attempts to make dinner and calls on Ciaran for help. He presents his meal later to his ladies and they love it. He then presents the swiss roll, sorry “Roulade”, that Sunita suggested he buy and pretend he made. Steve can’t find Becky and he’s trying to get ready to leave. Becky comes into the living room later (where Steve is packing for his trip), and she’s a mess clutching her mid-section telling him her stomach is killing her and that “something ain’t right.”

NuNick’s face is a nasty sight this morning from the punches he took the night before. Someone get that piece of meat a piece of meat! NuNick’s shiner(s) amuses David but NuNick claims his face is Jason’s handiwork and has nothing to do with April-1-2010-Nick-Shiner David’s pathetic little slap. Oh, I don’t know about that. When Nick leaves David arranges his appointment to see his mum. David’s upset that Nick isn’t going with him to see Gail and figures he should make a cardboard cutout of him to remind Gail what he looks like.

David visits Gail and she has a much better attitude than previously. She’s accepted that she’s in there for now, and there’s nothing she can do about it but wait. David confesses how he went to the Lakes to question the Kenworthy’s and Gail simply looks confused.

Jason is down in the dumps after being dumped. Sean assures Jason that he’ll get over it and find someone new soon enough. Jason says he has no problem finding women, it’s keeping them that’s his trouble. This is an astute observation. Bill comes in and tells Jason that April-1-2010-Lewis-ad the cure for a broken heart is a good day’s work. He would say that. Jason’s work is suffering due to his broken heart but Bill wants him to snap out of it – so Jason’ quits, naturally.

Norris complains again that Tina isn’t back at work yet and figures he could go see her. Mary’s more interested in planning their Bronte Country trip. Norris doesn’t understand gothic novels and thinks everyone in them should just have a cup of tea and settle down. Rita is browsing through “The Lady” magazine and finds Lewis Archer’s escort ad. Rita can’t help herself and picks up the phone to call Lewis. Are there no other men with their own teeth in the magazine classifieds? Rita and Lewis make an “appointment” to see a matinee today of her favorite theatre show. Rita rifts through all of her Sunday bests looking for the perfect overkill pattern to wear for her “appointment” with Lewis.

Norris asks Jason why Tina’s not back at work yet. He harangues Jason until Jason has to bark at him that he and Tina split up so he won’t be doing her bidding anymore. Norris, is of course in shock at this tidbit of information. Jason drowns his sorrows later in the Rovers with Kirk who’s suggesting online dating. He thinks it’s great since you can pretend to be anyone you like. Oh, that’s nothing to like meeting a girl in a bar and simply LYING to her, is it? He figures once she finds out he’s lying he can win her over with his charm and goodlooks. Har-har.

April-1-2010-Dev-Sean Dev is looking through property adverts for the Alahan’s new home. He’s looking into a home in Didsbury, but Sunita insists she likes it ‘round Coronation Street where she fits in. Has she ever really fit in on the Street, especially now? Sunita suggest that Dev not pool his money into a big house, but buy two or three smaller ones as investment properties. Hasn’t he got a varied enough property portfolio as it is?

Sunita is having a cuppa in the cafe when she notices Kirk looking a bit down, so she asks what’s the matter. Oh, please, as though she really cares about Kirk. He tells Sunita that Maria’s selling up. Sunita tells Dev later that they’re going to be viewing a house of her choosing later, and it’s obviously going to be Maria’s.

John’s having some serious attitude towards being told he’ll never teach again and he’s taking it out on Roy and customers. Fiz is shocked with John’s attitude, and John knows he’s being a runt. John moans about how he’ll never teach again and how he’ll have to endure the doldrum life of a cafe worker. Woe is me. Gahd, can he get more repulsive? Fiz figures he should just let his head settle and try re-training.

HIGHLIGHTS

- Rita thinking Lewis is handsome, and a plus that he’s got all his own teeth.

- Lewis telling Rita that her and he are going to get on like “a house on fire.” He’s a smooth operator, him.

- David really being the only one there for his mum. Although, he should go back to work at some point since there’s not much else he can do.

- Dev entering his shop and greeting Sunita, “hello my sweet” and Sean answering back “oh hello, cutie pie!” Then, Dev’s imitation of him.

LOWLIGHTS

- Becky smoking at the dining table at breakfast. That is so gross, I feel bad for little Amy with all that second-hand smoke around.

- NuNick constantly telling David to “grow up” – kettle, pot, black, annoying.

- John’s obvious disdain for his job at Roy’s Rolls. Is he too good for Roy’s now? Who does he think he is, goddamn superiority complex…

- Rita stealing Lewis Archer right from under Audrey’s feet. Can’t she find another man with his own teeth in the classifieds?

  1. Uh-oh, a storyline involving property. Cue to writers to mess everything up. Look what they did with the farcical house-swap storyline with the Websters and Peacocks, among others.
I'll bet all the Corrie writers rent their accommodation - that's the only thing that could account for them going haywire every time they deal with a house sale or mortage storyline.

  2. I found the Rita /Lewis debacle excruitatingly embarrasing and sad. Lewis is giving NuNick a run for his money in the pillock stakes. Who are all these "good friends" Sunita keeps harping on about, she has been away for years.

  3. Poor Becky. I adore her and Steve together as a couple and they really don't deserve these baby troubles. However, i actually think the upcoming adoption storyline will be brilliant, especially for Becky's character in general. Can't wait for that.

I enjoyed Sunita being back behind the counter at the shop and also her general integration back into the show now. Like she has never been away. However, i just don't get Maria flogging #7. I wonder what the final outcome is?

I CANNOT BELIEVE you haven't listed Mary's question to Norris!?! It was the funniest laugh out loud moment i have had on Corrie since Blanche (RIP Maggie). "I hope you don't mind me taking liberties with your peanut crusted balls Norris?". Hilarious! So funny.

Speaking of the Kabin it seems they seem a bit unsure what to do with Rita a tad now. Despite selling up she has spent the vast majority of her time in the shop doing nothing! So i was glad to see insider her flat again which has been rarely used over the years. I am glad she is getting a storyline and integrating her into the Lewis and Audrey one is a good move.

I don't understand why NuNick can't face seeing Gail? Odd. I felt a little twinge of sympathy for Gail tonight when she waved at David when he came to visit. Awww.

  4. Good point about Nick. He is a hypocrite for telling David to grow up.
