New Amy Barlow on the way

Little Amber Chadwick - better known to us as Coronation Street's Amy Barlow - has been replaced by a new child actress by the name of Elle Mulvaney.

Reports today have confirmed the news, and said a really good little actress was needed for Amy now that Tracy is returning and her role is stepped up.

I didn't realise she was to be the sixth reincarnation of Amy, however! To be honest, I'm quite glad this has happened. I've always found Amber to be a terribly shy little girl and never looked natural in front of the camera. Here's hoping little Elle will be a female version of Simon!

Is this the new Amy Barlow?

  1. Hear Hear! I daresay the current Amy is a wonderful little girl, but a long time now it has been apparent that she can neither act nor walk properly, and her constantly being carried into and out of scenes or led by the hand even indoors, has made it impossible to believe her character.

If new Amy has even a fraction of Simon's ability then she'll be a huge improvement.

  2. Thank heavens. As John said, i'm sure Amber is a lovely little girl but she's not an asset to the show. It's fine if you're 2 or 3, you don't really have to do much but now she's school age and will be featured more with the return of her mother, they *have* to have a child with a little bit of animation!

As for carrying her, that's pretty common, because it makes it easier to get a child in the same shot as the adult if they're all standing and the child is only knee high.

  3. I am quite happy about this. I am passionate about soap and there is nothing worse than an actor who can't act!

Good luck to Amber though, it is just a shame she could not adjust into the role.

I remember being so thankful when they replaced the original Sarah Platt. The young girl who played her was horrible. She was always looking at the camera and fidgeting. To me she always looked like she had just eaten a pound of sugar.

  7. The present Amy seems a very nice little girl and for a long time looked fine just waving and smiling when being carried, but she did start to look tense when she had to do a bit more (I can identify with that!!).

That will probably work better. She looks animated!

  10. You're right that this Amy's acting is awful. However, she's not the worst young actress in Corrie. We all dislike Rosie's acting abilities now, but her predecessor was even worse. She was like something from the Omen! Those eyes just pierced right through you.

  11. Thank the Lord! I saw a picture of the new actress with Alex Bain during filming for Blanche's funeral. Both were playing/messing about and they looked so good cute.

Hopefully there will now be more scenes between the cousins because clearly Amber Chadwick was so poor they couldn't risk putting her in a scene with Alex Bain as he would show her up so badly.

  12. Yes! I agree with this change. Amber was a cutie, but she was perhaps too immature for the role. I agree that the producers needed to find an older actress to "act" younger.

I can't wait for another youngin' on the street. Simon is great, even Aadi and Asha, but Amy and Joshua Peacock aren't cutting it for me. Am I missing anyone else?

  13. Can I just say its very unfair to treat children like this. Granada do this all the time they should send their young actors to drama school for training if they are not happy with their performance.

  14. I am Ambers Auntie, and think you should all think what you say before slagging off a child, note I said child. She is only SIX years old, and went into it as a 2 year old, Id like to see some of your acting.

She has done very well but not given the opportunity to develop, she loved corrie and has been replaced coz the new girl is 8 years old and can do more hours than a 6 year old.

  15. I don't think pointing out that her acting is worse than other children on the show is 'slagging'.

she simply doesn't work for the role. do you you think the producers should just keep being 'nice' to the child actors and wait for them to have years and years of training (which may or may not pan out)? and at what age does it become ok to realize they're not working out and should be replace? 10? 12?

it also depends on what kind of storylines they are going for and if the child will be needed to play a more prominent role

  16. Oops, forgot to add: Amber looked as though she really could be Steve's daughter, which I thought was cool. :)

  17. Nothing against little Amber; it's a big role for a little girl and it doesn't mean she doesn't have an acting future ahead of her.

I don't think she was the worst child actor on Corrie by a long shot; Bethany Platt was utterly awful -- always glancing at the camera and grinning self-consciously. She couldn't even speak properly.
