Rob James-Collier back on TV

With thanks to Corrie fan Clare for emailing in to tell us the whereabouts of lovely Liam Connor. Or at least, the actor who played him, Rob James-Collier.

Rob will be starring in a new period drama on ITV called Downton Abbey. He'll be playing alongside Oscar-winning Maggie Smith and ex-Corrie actress Joanne Frogatt who played Corrie's Zoe Tattersall. Remember the cult of Nirab?

Downton Abbey is a seven-part drama serial, set in 1912, written by Julian Fellowes (who once expressed a wish to join Corrie himself). It's about a great English family upstairs and the team of servants downstairs who cater to their every whim. Rob will be playing one of the downstairs staff, Thomas the footman. I'm thinking tight trousers and pent-up passion with the housekeeper. Filming begins at Pinewood studios next month and on locations in the Home Counties.

  1. I wish this actor well, of course. But I for one didn't/couldn't see the sparkle between him and Maria. There was more between him and evil Carla, of course because of the "adulterous" factor. The character of Liam was a bit flat...Corrie writers have to try and breathe more life into temporary characters like him or else get more experienced, more talented actors who can embrace temp roles immediately and get running...

  3. I didn't find Rob James-Collier as Liam interesting in any way - bland acting, monotone delivery, average looking. I for one didn't care to see him go and much preferred the Tony Gordon character on all counts - a well acted, passionate character with a fabulous accent to boot!

Be interesting to watch this and see if the monotone voice and bored expression is still as he played Liam Connor. I wish him well with his new role.

  5. Let's hope he's used his time off to take plenty of acting lessons. It'd be a shame if he spoilt a good Maggie Smith production

  6. It does sound good, with or without him. Joanne Froggat has become quite a good actor.
